It was disappointingly slow. A bit of a surprise, I seem to think I'm doing ok and the figures show different. I've messed up my Garmin settings too, I had pace in kilometres and distance in miles. But....I really enjoyed being out, 25 minutes of faster run with walk intervals, a trot onto the beach half way to take photos, just because I can't resist and turn for home.
They are digging our road up again so I took the car, lucky I did as they've closed it off now.....drove to the park where it all started, walked round the back of Brooklands, greeted numerous people and dogs, agreed we should have all worn gloves, crossed to the paths on the old golf course started the watch and ran, headed to the seafront, waited for the lights, ran towards Worthing, took photos, turned for home......
Felt good while running, tried different paces, best pace 5mpk, average pace 9.24mpk.....hey that's ok, I'm happy. Odd, Strava gives me average time 8.47 mpk and a couple of minutes less but same distance.
Next run will be Saturday in Tenerife, forecast is rain but I'll be wearing shorts anyway 😂
Run happy or rest well. 😃

Well done for getting out there, it’s chilly today!
It was my disappointment with my slow pace that got me started on this program that I’m doing. I suppose that if you want to get faster you have to work at it consistently. I got slower because I wasn’t consistent - life and illness got in the way. I was putting in the same effort as before, but couldn’t keep it up and my results were a lot slower. Now you and I both love slow runs, but I want to be able to run faster sometimes, too!
Sometimes it’s just good though just to get out there and enjoy running without agenda, just because we can. Which sounds like what you did today. Great photos as usual. Look forward to reading about your run in Tenerife!
Thanks Jools, I have a race in January and at Monday's 5 mile time I'm going to be last by about 10 minutes so my plan at the moment is Monday longer run increasing a bit each week, Wednesday faster with walk breaks and Saturday 5k however I choose, hoping over the weeks I'll get a bit stronger 😁 but if I'm last in the race, well someone has to be and I'll enjoy it
With your positive attitude you can’t go wrong, and I’m sure your schedule will help!
I can’t help thinking though that the plan I’m on would suit you really well! Not in time for your race, though - but if you’re interested after that, let me know. You have to ditch all thoughts of pace and heart rate and run by effort for a few months. You have to stick to it. I could have done it by myself, but I find I have good intentions but end up getting impatient and get distracted from following my own plan! The fact that I have a coach monitoring me keeps me from deviating 🤣
Which race do you have in January? Is it a 5 miler?
That’s great! I’ll be mustering some courage next year to enter some events. I hesitate to call them races. Makes it seem that I’m harbouring thoughts of winning 🤣
we’ll done that’s a good pace, definitely can’t walk fast anymore, had to reduce my pace after stress fractures I got in back, but still out there. The heat on your bare legs will make all the difference , no gloves or hats, snow here today. Have a lovely time, enjoy your running and relax.☀️😊
It’s hard when the numbers aren’t what you want but can you find some positives to celebrate? That best pace is amazing! You’re in a gorgeous location. You ran, and that’s getting you closer to where you want to be.
Looking forward to your holiday runs…enjoy the shorts! Not much chance of them coming out here!!!
