Nrc 10k plan run 1 week 3

I enjoyed this one. It was 25 minutes and a recovery run and I took it really easy. I've been getting very fed up with my garmin telling me my VO2 max is poor. How can it be? I run around 3 times a week. I do Pilates and yoga. Yes I'm old and slow but I'm reasonably fit I think, certainly compared with what I used to be before I started running five years ago. So today I decided I'd just ignore it, run entirely by feel and be grateful that I can do it at all. And it was good. Coach Bennett chatted away. Birds jumped in and out of the hedges. It wasn't raining or blowing and I finished calm and cheerful without a red face! We'll call that a win.

That's a huge win, and very similar to me, I'm running very slowly and according to Garmin ageing by the day, I'm also swimming but because I'm not getting hot, sweaty and exhausted Garmin thinks I'm doing nothing! Ignore her.....she'll get her comeuppance and you are amazing 😍

Thank you. That's really kind! I think we are all pretty amazing to be here and still running!

Sounds like a smashing outing to me - good for you !

I got fed up with Mr Garmin telling me how poor my VO2 was too so I just ignored him. I think he got the message because suddenly he was congratulating me and I didn’t do anything different to make it change 🤔

You’re doing great work and should be proud - definitely a win 👍

I think ignoring is an excellent strategy! I'm a big fan of just keeping on turning up!

Sounds like a great run to me! Be very careful of that Mr Garmin, the silver tongued flatterer has knocked 14 years off my age but told my husband his effort was only 'fair'!

Well that's harsh! Yes, at the same time as telling me my vo2 max is "poor" garmin tells my husband that he has the fitness of a 21 year old! He's 72 and while he is reasonably fit he doesn't do as much running as I do.... sigh.

Oh how I agree my husband and I occasionally compare Garmin’s daft fitness ages for a laugh. It’s certainly biased towards men he’s 7 years older and less fit but somehow… younger ?🙄We are 80 and 73 in the real world.

Yes. I've no idea how it works. Best to treat it as an amusement as you do!!

That sounds like a super run - with enough birds and zero gremlins! 🙌

It was just so good to be running without extreme cold or heavy rain or strong winds!

Just run... and enjoy... Garmin is an aid not a coach...just do it your way , comfortably and enjoyably... you are doing great!

I do manage to enjoy it but I can't pretend it doesn't irritate me! Glad to see I'm not alone!

We move together... and we support each other better than any Garmin may.

Flippin’ Garmin! The amount of times I’ve nearly thrown mine in a bush when it’s been shouting “too slow” as I’m running up a steep hill. I’m not sure what passers by must think when I’m shouting at my watch to get in the bin. Luckily they’re mainly sheep and cows!! You’re not along at all in feeling the frustration getting judged by something with a battery for a brain.

Currently, my race prediction times are all getting faster but my VO2 max is getting worse. How does that work? Rant over!!

It sounds like you made a really good decision to ignore it and your run sounds wonderful. Massive win. I’m really looking forward to that run. It’s nice to have someone just ahead of me to inspire me with wages coming up…thank you!!

That's a great phrase about being judged by a battery! It's reassuring to know that other people have strange garmin results too.

Exactly... I use my features, sparingly... it is there for my benefit, not the other way around. x
