I planned to run this morning, i haven't done a long run for a while, this afternoon Happyhays planned to run week 6 run 2 and i was going to walk.

Hmm, someone please tell my brain to shut up and go to sleep at night. My eyes were really squinting reading a book. I pretty much am word perfect on a load of sleep medication podcasts but some nights nothing works. Anyway, it was a good book and im due a couple of good nights now all ready for Parkrun Saturday.

So, i didnt wake very early and didnt feel like a long run so housework it was. And the answer to the question, can i turn a double mattress on my own???...... Is YES 😁, although it was touch and go at the point both the mattress and i were balanced on the bed and i wondered why i wanted to flip it over anyway .

So Happyhays and I went to the seafront! 5 minute warm up walk and off she shot, i sedately trotted along behind, dodging from side to side following the path and listening to music. After 10 minutes i could see she was walking and probably for the first time i didnt catch her up before she was running again. Its warm with a very light breeze coming off the sea. Tide is high, no sand today, blue sky and sunshine. The seafront was quite busy, cyclists and dog walkers, theres me dodging from side to side running steadily on. Eventually Happyhays is walking back towards me so i turn, drop to a walk and we start to chat. Then she has a phone call so i jeff back to the green and as no ine is sitting on the first bench i come to I stop my watch and sit and wait. I didnt bother with a NRC run today as i wasn't sure what I'd do and i missed the coach's cheery voice a bit but not much.

4k run, slow as an ancient snail but I'd found my rhythm it felt good.

We walked back to the car and both happy and relaxed.

Just as I'd taken my shoes off pair number 2 if the running shoes i ordered arrived, ive taken a photo but i seem to have gone for boring black again 😂😂😂

Run happy or rest well

It’s always nice when you find your rhythm isn’t it 😊!

Black is always fashionable 😊. My “new” shoes ( worn only for the second time last week as I fell in them earlier this year) are black with a “hint” of purple 😊.

I’m sure your new shoes will take you through many happy runs 😁.

Temptations! Makes me smile! I have never owned many pairs of shoes(“trainers”or heels), but now I run, the temptation to get a new pair is always there! I was in a queue the other day and couldn’t help myself admiring the very beautiful running shoes on the lady in front! It’s my new version of Window shopping!

I can relate to that, i love my running shoes, i love spending time working out which ones i will buy next

So sorry you’re not sleeping well. I still have the odd night where sleep will not come no matter what I try. Sleep stories seemed to help for a while. Meditation podcasts. Rain sounds don’t work at all, just make me stressed wondering if the windows are closed 🤣 I realised if you’re not going to sleep, you’re not going to sleep. Like you I just read. As soon as my clock radio comes on at 6 am - that’s when I’d finally doze off. 😊

Sounds like you found your happy pace! That’s really the best thing though, isn’t it? Great place to run in your new shoes at your happy pace 😊👍👏

lol yes, mattress I’ve been there and failed! Well done!

Oh and also for the run. (Although I think the turning over of a mattress is almost the larger achievement! 🤣)

Snazzy shoes! I like!

You might be right about the mattress being the larger achievement,

🍏⭐️Gold star for turning that mattress! So glad ours only has to be turned around not over!! I am so not into shoe porn! Love everyone else’s! Very boring I know .. I order the same black Asics as ever. After gait analysis at a shop & by an Orthopaedic podiatrist who both confirmed ✅ they were right for me.. they are like faithful friends. Well done on that 4k rhythmic run Sue especially after little sleep!!! I am using the Sleepio App & the prof on there says if I am not sleeping I have to get out of bed & do something in another room!! Only allowed back if I am ready to sleep 🤣

Sleep is the great eluder sometimes... can you just lie and rest.? Or do you need to do something......? You did well today.... and black.. it really is the new, any colour you like ! You could alwyas have some really sassy new coloured laces too!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toOldfloss

I lie and read, reading stops me thinking, the black looks good and smart enough when i need to be smart, i cant wear shoes so need smart trainers. Im going to try all the new pairs on runs and walks then decide which will be runners which will be walkers and which will stay clean for slightly smarter weae.

Sounds like a plan!

It’s good that you got out again Sue. Every run counts, even the slogs. At least that’s what I used to tell myself. Nice shoes by the way. I have a pair of Asics light show which I hardly wear as they’re too big but they are very comfortable and they are black until a light shine ons them and they glow. It sorta works.

Big pain about the sleep-presumably you’ve given up all caffeine in drinks? I had a decaffeinated coffee that wasn’t the other day at about 11am and my sleep that night wasn’t either!

I don’t understand the Sleepio reasoning in getting up until you feel sleepy again. It seems that would wake me up for several hours and I would be good for nothing the following day.

My tactic is to lie as still as can be and only think of 5 letter words I can use for Wordle! Basically bore myself to sleep. Doesn’t always work but often does.

Hope you get your 2 good nights and good you have done the mattress. That is an extreme challenge by your self!!

Thank you, last night was much better, its my stupid busy mind that does it, I'll try the words thing next time. I dont even know that the mattress needed flipping over but i get these ideas then have to do it.

My running shoes are aa brilliant orange - easily the best thing about my running!🤣

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGthants

Im so tempted with bright colours but... Pretty much always end up with black

Gthants profile image
Gthants60minGraduate in reply toSueAppleRun

I just read an article which said having more than one pair is good for more than the sole ... 😎

With how my legs and back have been, I read into it and although it is (a bit of) an indulgence it seems the muscles can benefit from different running shoe setups.

So I checked what was on offer and found a cracking £160 pair at better than half price.

They are not black!😬

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGthants

Ooo thats exciting, i ordered 3 pairs in a low moment at the weekend and whichever is best for running I'll order another possibly in a pretty colour, theres one I'm hankering after in bright yellow to match ine if my favourite tee shirts. Its addictive this running shoe buying thing. But then there's those light up in the dark ones RunBrianRun has above. At this rate I'll have to run for a few years yet.

Looking forward ro your running shoe photo when they arrive.

Before I started running, my "workout" 🤣🤣🤣 clothes were grey, grey, dark grey, and slate. Now I have a royal blue top, one soft yellow, one bright yellow, and one pink. My running shoes are orange. The new ones are a soft blue. It's part of the process of leaving the darkness ...

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toMissUnderstanding

They are boring black, im now hankering after a pretty pair, these might end up as my every day shoes under jeans in winter, for now im trying them out on runs and walks.

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

It’s always nice to have a reason for more shoes!! I tell myself it spreads the wear out so they last longer.

Happy shopping! There seem to be lots of sales about at the moment.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toMissUnderstanding

3 pairs this week might be my limit, but theres always next week 😂😂😂I cant wear shoes so i have trainers for every eventuality (mind you i wore my beautiful stilettos at Christmas )

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

I’m really struggling to remember when I last wore shoes that weren’t walking sandals or trainers! 😂😂😂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toMissUnderstanding

Well i know it was Christmas and then again at the funeral, i had a son and daughter hovering one each side of me waiting for me to fall over, but as i was the one to stand up front and do most the talking i just didnt feel i could go in running shoes,

I'm a member of the wakeful night Black shoe crew too! You seem to have started a trend... Last night was I was awake from 3 til 6 then got a hot drink and dozed off just in time for my alarm to wake me at 6:30 to get ready for work! Now determined to stay awake til bedtime hoping to avoid a repeat performance

At least we know that we are not alone lying awake at night- Virtual No Sleep Buddies-could catch on!

My shoes have been getting blacker with each new pair. Latest pair almost all black/dark grey except for asics logo - definitely no go faster stripes!

Pleased to hear you ended up with an enjoyable 🏃‍♀️-I find it always make things seem better.

Hooe you enjoy the new shoes!!

Week7 profile image
Week7Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

You too.I just end up with whatever colour is left - I always buy my running shoes reduced!!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toWeek7

Some of mine were reduced, originally my running shoes all came from ebay , i remember getting carried away once and bidding on 5 pairs, sure I'd be outbid and win 4 pairs, realy cheap, in varying stages if being worn out
