I set off early, to do my 4k round Buckshaw Village near work. I out running by just after 7, but it was definitely too warm. I also try to make my 4k run a faster one, so that probably didn't help either, but a run is indeed a run, and it's another one in the running bank. My average pace was about 6:50/km which is short of what I'd hoped for, but in this heat, anything is a win in my book
I'm slightly apprehensive about the next 8k on Friday... might be a bit warm, but I'm also looking forward to it. I'll try to set off earlier!.
Anyway... I'd better go and do some work, sorry it's been brief, have a lovely day everyone!
Well done, Neil! Your pace was fine - we have to go slow when it’s hot, as our body’s have to work so much harder in the heat. So slower is safer. Frustrating though. I want my shorter runs to be faster as I feel I have it in me now, but the heatwave has scuppered those plans. Meh.
I will be out at 6am tomorrow, and it will still be too hot. I am due to do my 9k at the weekend but it is set to be 20 degrees at 6am! Ugh. But, I will stop if it proves to be too much. For your 8k set off as early as you can and take water! Essential on long hot runs.
This run, however hard, will all have contributed to your fitness. Good work getting out there and getting it done!
I really am not good with heat; much prefer running 🏃♀️ in the cold (but with a blue sky please and thank you!)
Run 1 of week 6 for me - so either 4K or 5k - am thinking 5k as temperature at 6am looks cooler than it’s going to be on Thursday (when I plan to do run 2).
Don’t you worry about your next 8k. It will be fine, a walk in the park! I thoroughly enjoyed my 2nd go at 8k. 😁
No, I struggle with heat too. I think 11 or 12 C is my perfect temperature to run at. Some of my favourite runs have been the chillier ones.
I’m a bit frustrated again with the time I had on the IC, but I’ll get there, and I’m really looking forward to Friday’s run, if I can get out early enough.
Well I got my 5k done but no PB. I was going quite well until the pollen got to me and I had a coughing fit at 3.5k - the rest of the run was a struggle to finish. 😓 But I got it done. It was a bit cooler this morning, but not cool enough!
Forget about your week on the IC - it’s in the past now. xxx
Well done for getting it done at whatever pace. I rather foolishly didn't adapt what I was doing yesterday (a fast km in a 3.5km run) and had to stop and have a sit down.
I'm slightly apprensive about my run with the club tomorrow as it was hot last week and their definition of slow pace is considerably faster than mine! x
Thank you pianoteacher , I'm starting to realise that pushing one's self and the heat don't really mix. And you are really brave for going out with a running club, but I think it will do you the world of good too
Nicely done, and yes the earlier you can get your legs out the cooler it is..... you can do the 8k at a lovely gentle pace. Look forward to it and visualise how good you will feel...
Thanks JuJu, yes - I’m aiming for around 7:15-7:30/km for the next run. I think for me that’s a pace I can easily settle at, particularly as it’s a long one!
Look here young fella me lad! i would be ECSTATIC to have run that fast - ever, let alone in the heat. I only ever manage that downhill. You will ace the 8k, don't worry: just slow it right down so that you don't run out of puff at the midway mark.

Thanks Flick, I actually prefer the longer runs now. I’m using the shorter one as my “fast” run to try and improve pace, but the 8k I fully intend to slow down and just enjoy. Friday? Bring it on!

I typed 10 I have no idea how that came out as 8

Or maybe I did mean 8. I’m getting muddled up I’ve replied to so many people today 😳

Well however many k it is, I hope it goes ok, I’m sure you’ll do just fine
I think you said all that needs saying! Well done. I am looking forward to attempting the 5K (starting week 4) on Friday morning - let's hope we both get out early enough!
Thank you, I’m fast coming to the conclusion that running in this heat ain’t easy, so all the best for Friday for you. You don’t need luck though. We can totally do this, you know that, right?
Thanks Jenny, I’m actually deluding myself that I could go any faster, but so what? This isn’t about speed for me, it’s about finishing what I started. I’m historically quite bad at doing that, so I’m still riding the high for completing C25K!
All the best for your run tomorrow. Take it nice and easy, won’t you?
