Speed runs, intervals, tempo runs hmm, I never really know what I'm supposed to be doing, if I go off too fast I can't keep going. Anyway I found a 15 minute Find Your Pace run on NRC and after yesterday's slower than slow 5k decided to try it out today. Happyhays has run 1 of week 6 today and it's her story to tell, but just know that she was in front most the way and carried on after I'd stopped and was walking, once she turned we walked back together, feeling relaxed and happy. This run starts with a 5 minute warm up run, which I took really easy, shoes feel ok, legs feel strong, then there's the pause to stretch that I am too lazy to do...... And....10k pace.....I glanced at my watch and if I could keep this up for 10k I'd complete in 80 mins, an impossibility but it felt comfortable while I was doing it, and.....5k pace, I put a bit more effort in, run a bit faster and enjoy this, once again though, I'd never keep it up for 5k......moving in to Mile pace......that's fast and my smile is wide.....uh oh, now Celebration pace, which I'm told is 10 out of 10, so flat out I go! ๐ฎ.
I was expecting a 5 minute cool down but that was it! Over.
I could see Happyhays in the distance and still running so I stop the watch, set up a walk and walk to meet her, but then she was coming back still running so I turn and start to walk back. Eventually she drops to a walk and we walk together telling each other how much we enjoyed that.
Run happy or rest well.

Thanks Brian, it was great fun and we all need some fun don't we. I wonder if that's why you sprint? When I go fast even for a little while it feels exhilarating
Thatโs an interesting comment. I do like going fast and I sprint because Iโm better at that than I was at longer distances. Itโs become a bit of an expensive obsession but the fun is still there is course. My coach suggested I start looking for sponsorship to help offset some of the costs.
That all sounds very exciting, sponsorship would help with the costs. I'm enjoying reading your race reports and hope they carry on.I've just always known that although I'm not a fast runner there is something special about going flat out. For many years I had a treadmill and used to push it and myself to our limits every so often, and feel exhilarated.
Doesnโt matter though! It sounds like you deal with the different paces like I do. Itโs great to speed up for the mile pace, but I know I couldnโt keep it up for a mile. Donโt think Iโve tried celebration pace ๐คฃ
๐๐ค That sounds very positive! Given me food for thought! It sounds similar to my last weekโs workout which I managed & enjoyed! Today was 30mins & a tad too much ! I am definitely going to do last week again & then try todayโs one again!
So pleased you two had a pleasant time together. Xx
I remember the first time I did that NRC Tempo run. I didn't know what to expect so I gave it my all on mile run and had nothing left in the reserves for celebration run ๐๐ ๐๐โโ๏ธI try to incorporate tempo runs more often now as I've noticed the difference when out on my normal 5k pace... It's easier!!!
Well done Sue, remember mix it up and keep it fun ๐๐
I think im still a bit clueless to be honest, i think I'd like to do that run once a week to see if i gwt faster or slower, knowing now theres no cool down 5 minutes i think i might push a bit harder
