A run is a run

Day off! Yesterday was a funny day, boss is on training, my last three shifts have been supporting people so a day in our office to try and wade through some of the stuff on my desk, I say stuff because it just appears when I'm not there, haven't a clue what most of it is but have to do something with it or there won't be room for my cup of tea. Plus I've got all my monthly audits to complete before end of month .Start to skim through emails to find the moving and handling training that I was on the reserve list for had a cancellation so I had to grab my bag and off I went for training all day, so much for a day in the office .

Arrived with time to spare and trained all day .

Got up this morning with a few aches, it's not hard training but a day of getting on and off beds, on and off chairs and on and off the floor always leaves me with some slight aches

This morning's run, I didn't want to run for an hour and I didn't want to run half an hour, we shopped, banked and post officed first, came home made tea, off I went .

I'd chosen NRC second long run 42 minutes, perfect .

Headed north looking above the houses at hills and blue sky, a very gentle run, slightly up and I can't call it a hill but up all the same, got a bit lost, ran around a few closes, this isn't a distance run I was just plodding on and letting time pass. Turned and headed south, sun in my eyes, I'd forgotten my hat, and then I discovered I'd forgotten my tissue too so I sniffed a bit.

10 minutes to go, getting near home, turned off and ran through our near park, still not quite done so pass our house, run down the road, turn at the count down and sprint back, big smile, happy face, loved my run today.

And Willow? He put the shopping away and sat down

Run happy and most of all keep running keep smiling

That sounds like a lovely run. Having coach B for company is always a bonus! Funnily enough, I was in the same headspace as you this morning. I chose and enjoyed the “bests of the year run” which is a 40 minute easy run. You might like that one as another good more than half an hour but less than an hour run.

Well done Willow for sorting the shopping!

Oh he's wonderful at that, thank you, I did enjoy the run, I'd begun to realise a slow 6k once a week really wasn't doing it, I need shorter runs, I'll try that run, tomorrow though will be 20 minutes or even 10 as long as I get out after work, with Willow only coming our very occasionally I'm having to rely on my head and it so often says "I'm tired, tomorrow will do." But I'm slowing down and getting less fit

I’ve been averaging about 15-20 minutes at the moment. Short, regular runs are most definitely underrated in terms of staying fit. I was reading an article that popped up on my twitter feed saying as much! I’ll be trying to prioritise going regularly over going longer. It’s brilliant that NRC has so many options. I absolutely love that app.

Yes, that's my aim, longer runs are my favourite but not when I can only go once a week, not fit enough to run an hour or more unless I run the short ones, my head argues though

that’s the great thing about NRC…you can pick a time or a distance and invariably there’s a matching run!

It’s so great when you really, really enjoy a run! Well done 👍🏼

So nice to see your runs are longish again. I seem to remember there was a period were you regularly ran shorter ones and were building up again and that’s where I seem to have now ended up again. It does give me hope and inspiration!

I’m at the moment back to much shorter distances! I miss them. My 10k plan has to wait. But it’ll wait for me, right?

Yes it'll definitely wait for you, I'm so slow that running 6k means that I have tired legs for several days but it's my head that messes me up, I leave work every day thinking I'll go for a run, drive a whole mile home, by the time I walk into the house my mouth is saying " I was planning a run but I'm tired, maybe tomorrow" and that's it!!! I sometimes west my leggings to work so I don't even need to change (sighs)

well done after a stressful day at work and shopping done, a nice run to clear your head, that sounds great. And you had the weather with it, wish we had that, foggy all day and cold only 1 degree. Nice to come back and shopping all put away. That’s what I don’t like as well as putting ironing away. Don’t mind the ironing. Put your feet up and have a good night.

Thank you 😀 I've dropped my car at the garage because it's got a few niggles, I'm hoping to run more frequently now, it's just getting my head to agree

Hi Sola; well done on getting out there. Sometimes I feel that I don’t really want to run on a particular day, but I always know that I need to! Being retired helps of course, except that it opens up the “I can always do it another day” trap. So I try to keep to my three runs per week routine, plus a swim and daily dog walks, to try to keep the ravages of time at bay. You are managing your work/time/motivation conflicts brilliantly. 🙂

Thank you Beachcomber, filling time with work is a pain but I'm not quite ready to retire, I can see me sitting on the sofa for several weeks saying there's always tomorrow so while I can I'll keep going to work and running when I can
