In the three and a half years since we started running we completed C25K, we completed Ju Ju’s magic plan timed version and ran for an hour, we started the distance version and winter came so went to running less often, we started Garmin 10k plan, got to 8k and realised our legs just ached, all the time, then I went on to run 10k and we carried on running. Then Willow ran less and less and eventually said he didn’t want to run any more. I’ve run a few 10k’s so thought I’d go further, so started NRC HM plan, I loved it, short runs hill runs speed runs long runs, but…. I’m a slow runner and have a busy full time job and as the weeks went by I found it just took too much time and I ran less often.
But I do love a plan so thought I’d go easy on myself and see what the Garmin 5K plan was like, Monday I did the Benchmark run And carried on to 5k as I wanted to keep going.
Today is my day off yay 😀 second run is easy 10 minutes warm up 30 seconds cadence run 30 seconds recovery twice and 10 minutes cool down. I thought I’d run the warm up but slowly, glanced at watch and Oh! time not pace, very strange not knowing how fast I was going, watch buzzed for the cadence drill and off I went, 30 seconds came and went before I remembered to press the lap button. It’s a beautiful morning, I’m running the last bit but want to run a bit further so when the time ends I press a few buttons and carry on. I didn’t quite make 3K in 30 minutes but I so enjoyed myself.
Just before I left the house I had a message from my granddaughter who is on the plane taking her across the world for year 2 of uni, won’t see her until Christmas but so excited for her
Enjoy your day, whatever you are doing 😀

lovely post. I did much the same - did c25k, then Bridge to 10k, then IC for a while and back to C25k then Magic Plan for a ch age then carried in building up and did HM, then nasty virus and did run for quite a while, then C25k but skipped a few and same with B210k… and then Covid 1, back to C25k….covid2 and start again.
Now I just do what I feel like on the day.
I very rarely run continuously nowadays and then suddenly go out and run 45 mins straight. Mostly I do 10 mins x4 with 1 min walks ( about 5k for me) and I try to do at least a 10k every month sometimes I manage 2.
Sometimes I’m feeling strong and can do 15 mins x3 or even carry on and do 15 mins x6 with 1 min walks sometimes I have to do 5 min intervals
I have started trying to sneak a few “ hills” in ( well steeper slopes anyway 😂) but I don’t think I’ll run more than 10k again now. My stamina just isn’t what it was ☹️
Sounds very similar but i didn’t get covid, I’ll follow this plan until I get bored and then run some more 10k’s but….. I really think i have a HM in me somewhere but might have to wait until I retire and can give it more time
That's the beauty of running, you can change and adapt to your circumstances. Enjoy your 5k plan 😊👍💪🏃♀️ and good luck to your granddaughter on her year abroad! Exciting!
what a great history of running. I think you’re right to wait till retirement comes as trading for HM is very time consuming. So long as you enjoy your running however far or fast the rest is a bonus Enjoy 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Thanks, I’m not looking to race but i’ve thought for a long time i’ve got a half marathon on me, my sister ran several marathons when she was younger and I suppose I want to at least run a half to prove I can
I love your posts as well. I see you use the lap intervals on your Garmin. For my run/walk I use the run outdoor and run mode and edit it to run/ walk intervals. Sometimes I can’t hear the buzzer interval on mines and I miss the timing for walk and run . Great chance w hen your granddaughter is young to do these things and go abroad to study. Oh to be young, when you retire like us it’s the bucket list . 😀
My bucket list is getting longer by the day, I didn’t know an army challenge training day was on it until it popped up in a work email, I didn’t know Malaysia was on there either but if she doesn’t come home for easter i will go out and see her, and I didn’t know running faster was on there either 😂
I’m not much good at the lap button, but may get better over time, I saw the seconds counting and totally forgot to press until it went past 30 seconds. It was such a lovely gentle run though
Thank you for reading my posts I do tend to ramble
