I did my first ever 10k yesterday! Woo! Hoo!

I completed c25k nearly 2 years ago, and never really wanted to run any further. However, my niece signed up for the Brighton Marathon, so I thought I would go and support her. I then discovered you could also run a 10k before the main event, so secretly signed up!! I downloaded the Magic Plan to 10k, but with 2 runs per week. Everything was going well, until I got extensor tendinitis before my final run! I rested for just over 2 weeks, and crossed my fingers. I told my niece what I was planning to do, on the drive down on Saturday!! Yesterday, I completed the Brighton 10k in beautiful sunshine! So proud of myself and her!!

Oh, I love this!😀 What a fantastic way to do your first 10k! 😀🏅Congratulations to both you and your niece - anyone completing a marathon has my total respect! 🙌🎉 🙂

Thank you! It was a fantastic experience! Watching the marathon afterwards was very inspiring . I saw two runners help another over the finish line, as the poor man was totally exhausted, but they helped him finish. Very humbling.

Completely agree about watching a marathon! My husband ran the London Marathon last year and me and my sons thoroughly enjoyed cheering everyone from the sidelines - what a truly awesome thing it is to do!😀

Absolutely! The crowds are so supportive of the runners, and where some of them get the energy from to sprint to the finish, I have no idea!!

Thank you! Lovely to get an actual medal! Running the last part along the seafront in Brighton with the sun shining and the huge crowd cheering all the runners was amazing!

Thank you! The hardest part was keeping it a secret from my family!

Yes it must have been hard, doing the training and not sharing the excitement of why

Dansac29 profile image
Dansac29Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Well, I wasn’t sure I would be able to run the distance….. despite following the training plan! Then getting tendinitis 2 weeks ago…. It looked a bit dodgy that I would be able to run at all on the day, in fact I nearly pulled out on Wednesday! So I am so delighted that I ran and finished! My husband knew I was training for it though!

Thank you so much! I thought if I told people I was doing it, then couldn’t, it would be disappointing. So I took the pressure off, by not telling them! I have to say they were very surprised when I sent them the pictures of me finishing!!

How amazing for you, you must be over the moon. I can’t ever see myself doing a 10k but if I can run 30 mins 3 times a week i will be delighted with this. Well done to your niece for doing the marathon as well what an achievement. When I see people running my hat goes off to them I always think how can they do it. Many congrats keep celebrating keep running.

Thank you so much! I never thought I would be able to run 5K, let alone 10k. Honestly, if I can do it, anybody can! So pleased with myself, and congratulations to everybody who ran on the day!
