I have not run a 10k since my first and only 10k back at the start of November and as such was a little nervous about going the distance.
I needn't have worried though as the NRC training programme must have prepared me well as I breezed through the distance. "Breezed" is probably somewhat of an exaggeration as I was feeling tired but far more controlled than my first experience. I even managed to increase pace for the last 3km giving me a PB of 1:05:10.
I was grateful for the chilly breeze and light rain for keeping me cool. The only incident of note being a squirrel sitting in the middle of the road seemingly waiting for the car which was coming up the hill. As I approached I clapped loudly which startled him and off he went into the trees thankfully. Probably would have done anyway but I felt proud for saving him πΏππ
Well done on your second 10k! And it's good to hear that the NRC plan had you well prepared. I'm still following along behind, and really appreciating the strong emphasis on pace - it is quite a revelation, and I agree that runs (well recovery runs mainly) feel so much more comfortable.I hope the πΏοΈ thanked you for your good deed π
I think the great part is feeling comfortable slowing down when needed to run smartly. It has completely changed my enjoyment if I'm honest. Daft as it may seem but running "smart" is soooo much better than being knackered and miserable. Pretty obvious really but it takes some time to stick in the brain π€£
I think the NRC team have taken me to a new level of enjoying running which is unbelievable given that I haven't got to my first year runiversary yet. Nearly, but not quite. Eleven months since the cardiac event and the decision to get off the couch π
Brilliant to get to that distance again comfortably! All that preparation has paid off obviously. Well done and quite speedy too! You must be proud of your progress!
Its only been achieved with the support and guidance from the great people on this forum Roxdog - yourself included. Without this support I know I would have been back on the couch now.
Its great to have a goal, something to aspire to and people to support you in getting there. ππππ so thank you to everyone here.
Good for you. I find that the 10k for me at easy pace (mid 6 mins per k) is much more enjoyable than a 5K where I am trying to run at a decent time. Of course I would have to be listening to a good podcast or music whilst running.
β¦ I think youβll enjoy it even more that this last one. Just think, youβll then be a thrice-10ker! πππ(Maybe stock up with a healthier alternative?π)
Well done on your 10k and sticking to the plan! I should have done that last week but, having stepped back from the HM plan only did 7k on Saturday. Very encouraging to know you were so well prepared for 10k, maybe I'll give it a try if there's a nice day this week. Or maybe I'll wait until next week and do 9k this week
Ah how brill is that, a 10k AND a saver of squirrels! Super well done on your run, and PB to boot. Isnβt it funny how as a runner we appreciate, letβs be honest, pretty yucky weather π€£ππΌ
It is. And today was the first time ever I saw the rain prior to a run, put a rain jacket on an went out in it....... and actually, really enjoyed it ππ
