Just back from running my first 10k ... absolutely thrilled ... can't believe my poor old legs have run that far.
It wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty but I did it! Fortunately the weather was kind, the wind was behind me for the last 2k which really helped.
I call the training plan I used '10k the Wizziewood Way', I added 500 meters every 2 - 3 weeks, consolidated the distance then moved on. I did a short run and Parkrun as my other runs during the week. Not the quickest way to 10k but it's worked for me.
I now feel the pressure's off, I'll probably try to run up a few hills but other than that I'm not setting any goals at the moment ... just do what I want when I want!
.... and perhaps I'll start believing that I really am a runner now!
Thanks again to all you wonderful people out there who continue to inspire and encourage me.
Happy running everyone!

I like the sound of the Wizziewood Way. Sounds like a very sensible way of reaching a target distance while keeping the risk of injury to a minimum - and it clearly worked!
That’s brilliant well done you. I hope I will be able to say the same at some point in the future. Your way of doing it sounds really good too. I graduated from C25K end of Feb and struggling a bit to motivate myself sometimes.
Well done for completing C25k. I think a lot of people fall into the doldrums after graduation without the structure of a program. That's why I set myself the 10k goal and although my 'plan' took me rather a long time I was constantly working towards an end result.
Fanstastic! Well done and enjoy your achievement Good luck with your journey up hill (by far the hardest of all!! I'm fortunate to live on flat grounds but I can imagine it's more fun to run up and down)!
Thanks. Like you it's generally flat in my area and I often run along the sea wall and canal path so I'll have to put in a bit of effort to find a decent hill! I'll let you know how much fun it is when I've huffed and puffed my way up one!
Happy running!
Fantastic, well done!!! I'm on my way - 8k this week I hope, but I'm finding it tiring and having to rest extra days, heyho!
No wonder you're thrilled, that's brilliant! Your plan sounds just the thing and clearly got you to 10K safely. Well done and many congratulations 🍾🎈🎉👏👏👏
Wowzers??? I am not surprised you are thrilled, even I’ve got a great big grin for you!! Well done, I can only dream of 10k but I will hopefully get there one day. Running what you want, when you want sounds good to me...congratulations x
