Posted this on the August quest thread, but then decided I'm so chuffed with myself it deserves its own post!
Well if my shiny new badge doesn't give the game awayπ ... I completed part one of my quest today, nailing that 10k π Feeling ridiculously proud of myself. Tech fail - forgot to charge my bluetooth headphones meaning the battery died a couple of k in - meant I had Coach Bennett speaking to me out of my pocket, cueing a few odd looks from people I passed!
In the process I also smashed part two, taking my August distance to more than July's 42k, which was previously the furthest I'd ever done in a month. I generally only run a couple of times a week, sometimes less, depending on what other exercise I've done, so it does take me longer to hit these milestones.
As I have tended to do the long run first, I do technically have a 4k and 5k left to tick off the Magic Plan, which I am planning on doing to finish August in style! It'll also take me past 50k in a month, so another nice goal.

Aw thanks, think I started C25K a few weeks after you, so you've certainly been quicker to hit those milestones I'm a great fan of running my own race and trying to compare only with the previous me, but it's great to have the inspiration of those ahead of me too!
I might have been quicker but it took me a very long time to have confidence in myself that I could run 5k, 10k and then further. This forum is amazing though in helping is out along the way π
I know what you mean with wishing we'd started things sooner... but we're doing it now and you're doing great. You must have found real benefit from pilates to still be doing it
Absolutely - I had spinal surgery 6 or 7 years ago, and I swear pilates was the main thing that kept me mobile before, and it definitely speeded up the recovery process. We're very fortunate to have some of the top industry professionals here in Glossop, so my normal teachers are hugely well-respected trainers too. Upping the pilates during lockdown has noticeably improved my running too
Stages of life! Tbh, a lot of my daily exercise stuff atm is still being mum - my adult daughter has chronic fatigue, and we're trying to build up her strength, so I'm prioritising a class with her most days.
Congratulations on your first 10k Ethelbert ! ππππ That shiny Graduate10 badge is definately worth shouting about! So pleased for you - and I like the image of you running along with Coach Bennet blaring out of your pocket - brilliant! August is looking like a good month - great to see all that hard work paying off. Enjoy your shorter runs now...sort of like a lap of honour! π
Ooh yes, a lap of honour - that really works actually, cos my standard route is a straightish trail with a loop at the end - my 4k includes once round the loop, the 5k route goes twice round it, and today was 5 times round it!
Thank you. You guys are doing great too I think one of the great strengths of this forum is that when you see so many progressing, it gives you the belief that you can too.
I know, I love reading what people are running and how they are getting on then i get back from our run and post our progress itβs strange but so encouraging and supportive
Thanks, fellow August graduate! My time was about the same as yours, funnily enough π although it's taken me much longer to get here - I started C25K in November 2018, using a treadmill to protect my back and ankles. Graduated there, transitioned to outside and did it all again, then built up to 5k. Started timed Magic Plan about a year ago, graduated that in January, consolidated a bit building up the distance on the shorter runs, and now, finally here I am!
Brilliant - u ran your own journey! You've obviously taken care not to get injured and that's a very good idea (she said with twingeing glutes and knees....). What next???
Yep, not getting injured has been a priority! With a history of back issues including surgery, a broken ankle and sprained ankles more times than I can count, I've been super careful. I do a lot of targeted strength and balance work as part of the mix of pilates, fitness and conditioning classes I'm doing, and that definitely makes a difference. My classes have been online during lockdown so I've done way more of them, and my running has noticeably improved, distance and pace.
Next is consolidation! Playing with speed and hills maybe, and finding new routes cos I mostly use the same one.
Well done!!!! Great achievementπππͺπͺCoach Bennet got me to 10k too!! Celebrate wellπ I got myself a physical medal too as it is such a great occasion- almost surpassed c25k week 5 run 3π
Bet he wasn't coaching loudly from your shorts pocket though! Oh that W5R3 - that was possibly my biggest buzz too, the first time I truly believed I could do this π
