Woo hooo it finally happened 10k

I took part in The Portsmouth 10K yesterday and I ran the whole thing! Finally! It was a 2 lap course and I felt myself mentally struggle just up to the 5k mark and straight after but I seemed to pick up the pace after that. Running by the lake was lovely because the air was really clear however it wasn’t particularly well lit and there weren’t a lot of Marshall’s on the way back. I may have been one of the last people back on the 10k run as a fair few were doing one lap for a 5k, but I was wondering at one point if I had gone the wrong way. At 8k I started enjoying it - yes it took that long - and I thought I was flying along although looking at the stats afterwards I wasn’t, no matter though because it felt good. I’m delighted it’s done, delighted with my bling and grateful to you lot for the encouragement and to Juju for the amazing plan

Many congratulations to you and well done 🎈🍾🎉💪👏

It's a great distance and another milestone (or 6 🙂) ticked off. But where's the bling? We love seeing the bling!

Haha thanks - my tech knowledge is poor, I can’t see how to post the bling and it is beautiful and huge. Will try and post somewhere and let you know. It’s the Welsh flag (as it was St David’s Day) there’s a series of 4 saints days runs and if you do all 4 which sadly I can’t, it makes one big medal - v blingy!! 😊

Well done EmmaRunning, I wanted to enter this one but am on skiing holiday. Are you a local runner? .JonathanP runs his local Parkrun at lakeside and I’ve done it twice. It must be quite hard in the dark. UpTheStanley, Coddfish and I run at Southsea Parkrun- do let us know if you come down one day.

Thanks! Will def let you know if I come down but it’s not my local - there were some lovely people running behind me last night having a chat who introduced themselves - I think it was theirs. V friendly group these runner types I’m finding 😊. Enjoy the ⛷ 😊

Well done Emma - good time too! It was a bit muddy at Lakeside parkrun this morning so I can only imagine what it was like in the dark! 😀

Thanks - we may have churned it up a bit to be fair - there were some fairly big puddles to navigate last night .... I failed obviously! :-)

St. George’s Day on 23 April might be a goer. It starts at 1900 so hopefully I’d only have to finish in the dark! Are you on JonathanP and Coddfish

Hi Dexy. I will give it some thought. It depends how doing a 10k in April fits with the training plan for the Vitality 10k at the end of May, as I would probably not bother with the Saints 5k. We are also currently musing over whether to enter the GSR again this year (well I am, Mr Coddfish is concerned about how much time the training takes up, but I am sure will do it if I do). Either way we will probably do the RNLI 10k which takes place 2 weeks before the GSR. It is organised by the same people who do the Saints races and the Portsmouth Santa run. It starts at the RNLI station and runs east to the castle and back.

Hope you are still enjoying your holiday, we are in the middle of a pretty miserable storm here.

We are having a great time here, but it hasn’t stopped snowing for 2 days. Yesterday was a rest day but interesting skiing in knee deep fresh snow for us this morning. The view from our accommodation changes every day. Only 2 days skiing left ☹️ But all good things have to come to an end. I think I’ll have to learn to run again when I get back 😂😂

I haven’t run 10k since November so it will be good to have something to aim for. UTS is doing the GSR.

Having had unseasonable temperatures in UK I guess a storm to bring it back to normal was inevitable. Fancy breakfast at the Beach cafe on Saturday, if you haven’t other plans?

Hi Dexy, we won’t be around on Saturday as we have tickets for the England / Italy rugby. Going to aim for Gunnersbury parkrun as the nearest not yet done to Kew (where we are staying for the weekend). We then have family down the following weekend (will run, but won’t be able to stay). How about making a plan for breakfast on 23rd March. Mr Coddfish and I are your happy pair of timekeepers that week.

Good idea Dexy - I too will have a think. Interestingly I'm not particularly motivated to enter a formal 'race' at the moment but who knows! Storm Freya waning now thank goodness. Hope you have a good journey back on Thursday 😀

Thanks JP, I’ll have to do some practice at lakeside Parkrun if I do St George’s!

We will be on thee red eye so will take a while to adjust - i hope to be OK for parkrun on Saturday- getting out of bed will be the first challenge 😴💤💤

Thanks. I know some of my parkrunning buddies are doing all the Saints. I’m away for St Patrick’s too. Maybe I’ll make it for St George 🧐 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

At least that one will be mainly in daylight! My last 10k was 77 mins back in November so at least you won’t be last. 😂

I recognise that map! I used to work at what is now Lakeside in the 1980s (when it was called North Harbour) and would sometimes walk round the lake if I had time at lunch time. I wasn’t aware they had a 10k this week, although I have seen various events take place there in the summer. Plus of course Lakeside parkrun uses a similar route. It sounds like you were running in the dark which must be a bit interesting round there. Glad you didn’t fall in the lake!

EmmaRunning profile image
EmmaRunningGraduate10

It was a bit dark! And at one point I thought I'd taken a wrong turn but thankfully no lake diving - just a couple of large puddles! fitprorob.biz/st-patricks-d...

this is the link for the races, all held on the Saints Days. Suspect it looked a bit different in the '80s - there are a few smart commercial buildings there now but too dark to see anything else :-)

So chuffed for you 😀😀👏👏🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️. Such a great feeling 😊. Here’s to many more happy 10k runs ahead.

EmmaRunning profile image
EmmaRunningGraduate10

Thank you, yes it’s weird as it almost feels less of an achievement in some ways than Parkrun for the first time - but I think that may have been initial runners excitement. 😊

Fantastic race EmmaRunning, sounds like a tricky course. 10k is a real achievement 😁😁🍾🍾🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
