Willow stayed home in the warm and Jo and I decided to attempt hill sprints, well thatโs a ๐ so we decided to just run, to the top of the downs, through the woods, round the fields back through the woods.
Dark grey clouds were in front of us as we marched upwards for our warm up walk with the sun on our backs and sparkling on the sea.
The little dog shouting hello excitedly to every dog we saw, arrived at the track and time to run, itโs steep so little steps very slow, walk a bit run a bit, evens out along the top so run although the track is narrow so not fast, through the woods, marvel at the trees, the views, just the best.
We didnโt have a route exactly, we just meandered this way and that slowly, taking in the beauty around us, stopping to take photos every so often.
And then back down hill, oh fun ๐คฉ and funny, Jo had pulled ahead on the downward stretch until it flattened out a bit so I took a deep breath and sprinted, wow,
Hills, trails, woods and beautiful views, yes!! thatโs why I run!
Keep running keep resting keep laughing and the rest will sort itself out
Oh and Iโve found out how to do negative splits, up hill on the way, flattish along the top and downhill on the way back ๐ 5k took us almost an hour but was the very best 5k ever

Hills โค๏ธ๐ฅณ๐ brilliant secret training aid lovely scenes and what a great venue ๐๐
Yes ๐ weโve walked up there loads over the years with dogs and even now sometimes in the dark with daughters dog and weโve run there but not for a long time and today just felt perfect
Oh wow. That looks so gorgeous to run.PS shhhh! dont give away the secret to negative splits ๐
More lovely photos from you Sola, now that was a good run for you today, I notice 5 negative splits, that's when the next 1K is a little quicker than the previous one, congratulations.
Thanks Al, yes I know!!! in two and a half years Iโve never managed them before so was jumping up and down in excitement, and Iโm way too old for that ๐
What a wonderful post. Your joy of running shines through. Iโve learned to love hills as well but my running has been on the flat a bit lately. Youโve inspired me to look for a more up and down route ๐.
Brilliant that you have found a running friend! I feel like this is a whole new chapter in your running story. Save walking with willow for nice times with him, and enjoy your running as a separate enterprise. Good job btw!
Thank you and yes you are right, Iโve always wanted to run further than Willow and appreciate that he comes out with me and waits for me to finish but having someone so much younger and enthusiastic is giving me more running and ooo those hills, they are great fun
Running has been a bit just every so often on a day off and only then if i could be bothered, then one day at work jo said โI wish I could run like youโ and we started c25k with her, next run starts week 9 for her and we do have fun, weโve agreed hills and trails once a week river once a week and park once a week but itโs hard holding her back sheโs so keen itโs enthused me
Thatโs good a bit variation instead of the same all the time. Keeps you interested . A good routine. Youโll have to get trail shoes for the winter coming in for your hills, Iโve invested in some Altra Lone peak 5to give me grip not for hills for me.
What a fun run you had WillowandSola - this post made me smile. It sounds delightful and you were rewarded with lovely views too. Negative splits are always a bonus, however you achieve them. ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐
Running where I do, that's also the only way I can ever do negative splits, and even then I'd have to mess around with routes and most likely end some way from home.
Brilliant. ๐ So great to read of all the fun youโre having. And just to say, thatโs one fab way to crack the negative splits thing. Why didnโt someone think of that before?!๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ๐
