Not much running involved

Met a friend for a walk today and wore my new trail shoes, bit of luck I did really, she turned up in jeans and long sleeves so I knew there wouldn’t be much running but a hike over the hills good enough

The weather is amazing bright blue sky and sunshine, it wasn’t long before my jacket was tied round my waist the sun felt so good

We came to a fork, do we plod the long hill or march up the steep hill and then jog along the top of the ridge? we go for the steep hill through sheep end lambs but what’s this? an electric fence, so follow that up another hill until we get to a gate, through and up, recognise the woods on and on, chattering and laughing, sheep baa ring, birds singing, on and on we go, but um it’s not quite how i remember it, so head for the woods there’s a tiny narrow gap we squeeze through avoiding the electric fence and some barbed wire

Down and down along a really rough path over rather large sawn tree trunks “i always forget you’re short Sola” says my friend who is almost 6ft tall so what she climbed over was rather a fun scramble for me

Do we carry along the parthway and hope to come out near where we started? that was my plan but my friend found a down and down bit that showed a glimpse of track and grass so off she went, hmm a fence topped with barbed wire!!! but by putting my jacket over the top and holding it down for each other we made it over with only a few puncture wounds and a little blood

Back on track, to sit by the lake and drink tea and share cake, watching people feed the ducks, very nice

7.33 k and lots of vitamin D I have as everyone else has missed seeing friends

Photos, the castle from where we parked, sheep with lambs, primroses and our track

Run strong everyone and rest well if you are on the injury couch x

What is the COGH website please?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Joggingonthewildside

Google "COGH" You should get to it that way I think

Ooh I recognise that lovely part of the world 🏰 ☀️. A perfect day for a walk 😊. Sounds like you made the most of it and how wonderful to finish off with tea and cake 😊

It was a lovely first leave day for me

What a lovely day and picture. Makes me jealous blue sky and heat. A lot colder in south east Scotland not much Blue sky and heat more windy and cool. At least not raining. Good to get out and hear nature all around. Enjoy your day 🌞😀

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Doris8

Thank you it was lovely. Many years ago I was in the Hebrides in mid April, when I phoned home they were in shorts having a bbq, i was sat outside in huge warm coat in the snow , such a difference a few hundred miles makes

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Doris8

To make you more envious of the sunshine in England and Wales Doris8 I looked at a cloud radar app and noticed on Tuesday afternoon that the clouds only started at the Scottish Border in a south-west/northeast direction, never mind at least you were not in the north-west of Scotland where there were 3 inches of rain which fell and that was the third day in a row that area has had rain non-stop.

Doris8 profile image
Doris8Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Yes not a rainy person. Out for a slow jog this morning 30 minutes and was cold on the hands could have done with gloves on. But we’ve got sun 🌞 at the moment but chilly. Might heat up a wee bit later. Prefer running (ie slow jogging) in cold , walking in warmth. Colder this week and wintry showers forecast so hope not here. Enjoy your day😀

I went for a 5K run this morning to add to my total distance to that COGH challenge, tomorrow I intend to go a 10K walk.

Doris8 profile image
Doris8Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Well done. Where is your challenge taking you too?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Doris8

The challenge is taking me and about another 80 runners and walkers to Cape Town near to the Cape of Good Hope (COGH)

Doris8 profile image
Doris8Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

That’s some challenge . Where are you about on your journey just now?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Doris8

It's of course a virtual challenge, we as a relay team are at Novosibirsk in southern Siberia.

Doris8 profile image
Doris8Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Will have a look on iPad to see where it is. I know in Russia keep going😀

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Doris8

Apparently there are many Irish pubs in Novosibirsk, its also the place where the local ballet theatre is larger than the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

Doris8 profile image
Doris8Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

A bit colder up there than here.A lot of daylight in summer. 😂

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Doris8

The latitude of Newcastle and Novosibirsk is the same, Newcastle is 54.97, North, Novosibirsk is 54.98 North, so not much difference in daylight.

Doris8 profile image
Doris8Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Never thought of the latitude ALMorr forgot about that part.

I can only ditto what Doris8 said. I'm in the west though - windy here too! The primroses are out though so hopefully the sun won't be too far behind. Tea and cake ....sounds like you've had a glorious day!

Sounds a lovely walk, funny just like me, wore some new trail shoes too, but just walking today. The canal is the closest i've got to trail running, we've some nice woods around here, might have to give them a try 🤔Blimey, all that jumping over barbed wire, and electric fences sounds fun! 🤣

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Peter44

As a child I lived on a farm and one of the games is kids used to play was to see how long we could hold on to the electric fence, i’m terrified of them now lol 😂

Peter44 profile image
Peter44Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

I think we all tried out the electric fences when we were younger! 🤣

It was a bit scary in places, hard work and 7.33k up and down hills, thank you we had a great time and the tea and cake was lovely, also we realised the outdoor heated pool is open but booked solid for the next week at least

I need to walk there one day. We were near the South Downs 3 years ago but at Champneys. 💆🏻‍♀️. My 40th birthday present from my husband and I was two months away from giving birth to our son 😀.So definitely need to return for a walk.

Lovely walk and glad you got to see your friend

What an adventure that was! I’m looking at the same primroses flowering in my backyard.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to GailXrunning

We haven’t really been anywhere to see many primroses this year so it was good to see them, it’s a walk i used to do often with a friend but there are lots of new electric and barbed wire fences so we got a bit lost, it was fun though

Sounds blissful. Running is enjoyable and challenging, but walks feed the soul. Just what is needed in these covid days and shows us what's important, health friendship and the beautiful outdoors. They all come without a price tag too.

I'm going to be having similar days for sure.

Best wishes ☺️

Oh that sounded such a lovely walk (and climbing!!) with your friend in such glorious weather. OMG it is so lovely at the moment isn’t it so nice to have the good weather and feel so happy and free. The good weather really helped motivate me to get out of work on time so I could go to the park. What beautiful photographs looks so beautiful.

Great that your annual leave has tied in with the beautiful weather. I have two days off now. Enjoy your well deserved break x 🥰🐻🥰 x

Enjoy your days off, my time off is a bit of a fluke because i had to cancel a few days leave earlier in the month and my boss agreed i could carry them over and put them in, it was only later i realised it was easter week which gave me a whole week off Enjoy this good weather, i hear it’s even warmer inland xx
