Back to the river 5k today

Last Saturday Jo and I ran 10k we were both off work and we jeffed a lot of it, the first and last kilometre were along a narrow rutted muddy track and not a lot of that was run. We decided to find somewhere on the other side of the river where the path is better for running on.

Fast forward to today, I’m lucky enough to have the weekend off but Jo was working til 3 so the plan was to run at 3.30

I woke at 4 and remembered I had forgotten to send a very important email yesterday so that was the end of my nights sleep.

To the run, Jo is faster than me so we agreed to run our own run and meet up at the end, Jo went off faster, I kept it really slow because since I’ve had a cold that goes on and on I’m getting fed up of walking some of it, the intention today was to run the whole lot, it’s gloomy and I start to wonder if we’ll get back before dark! It’s quiet, oh my music has stopped that’s why, keep going, Jo isn’t that far in front so I push a little bit, not a lot just a little faster, this feels good and coming up to 2.5k time to turn, the path is gravel and slower going than the smooth park pathway but a lovely tree lined pathway.

We were chatting when we realised I wasn’t lagging behind, came to 4k and Jo went a bit faster, I stayed fairly steady, I love running and chatting but running as it got dark in the silence was peaceful, I could see Jo had stopped and clipped the lead on her dog, glanced at my watch, 4.96k so push for a faster finish and 5k run 😀

As we crossed the road back to our cars I realised that’s the first 5k completely run with no walking breaks for a month or more since I had first the flu jab that knocked me flat then the booster jab that wiped me out and then a cold that floored me. So I’m really happy.

Last Saturday 10k Sunday 5k Tuesday 5k Thursday 2.83 k and today 5k this amount of being out and moving has got to be good for us

Have a great weekend all

A big congratulations to you Sola on that non stop 5K run along the river bank and just before it got dark, that last paragraph on your post tells us all that the last few weeks have been pretty bad for you, just hope now that everything is OK. 😊 🏃🏾 👍

I always love your completely positive posts! Well done you. I am amazed at your consistency and love of every run you do and the fact you don't put pressure on yourself. You are an example to us all. I'm convinced this lack of pressure on yourself is the reason you run strong and keep the injuries at bay!

Well, you don't moan here! Ever! Love it! Sorry you've been suffering with a cold, it can knock the stuffing out of you! I have my booster next week. The first 2 vaccines knocked me for 6 so I'm hoping as this will he a different vaccine it will be ok.

I know what you mean about walk running after a cold Sola. I ran no stop for the first time for ages on Wednesday, and you’ve had the jabs and work pressures to cope with too. Well done on your run today with Jo. I think you are good for each other.

Thanks Dexy, yes we are good for each other, since getting home she’s text to say thanks she wouldn’t have bothered after work on her own and I certainly wouldn’t have bothered, Willows daughter has been to stay so we had a lovely cooked breakfast, I run better when I’m not still a bit full of beans and bacon

That sounds like a lovely run, and well deserved after what must have been a miserable few weeks. Great that you have trained up a new running buddy to keep you company on these dark days 😉!

I’m just a bit nuts, in my early 20’s I ran 7 miles 6 nights a week, then we moved and i between Ive run a bit, owned a treadmill and used it a bit but never found another running buddy til we started c25k together, now I want to run more and it’s great that Jo does too, she’s talking about a HM next year 😂 I might have to retire to fit the training in

It sounds so lovely!! It is nice to build towards something and also good to have Jo. You can spur each other on and keep each other going. If you can keep going out regularly then the rest will follow I'm sure.

Thanks it feels good to keep going again I think when you are a bit unwell you don’t realise how it affected you until you feel better

I like Jeffing, but like you I also like to slow right down and run without stopping. It seems easier to just run for the sake of it and enjoy it, although I think I would enjoy Jeffing with a buddy! This seems like a great run for you, Sola and hopefully a return to full health! Well done 👏👍
