Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good morning everyone. I camped last night on the West Coast of Ireland and this morning travelled to run at Tubbercurry parkrun. It was a two lap figure of eight course through a beautiful Forrest trail. I was tired at 3.40K and took a quick walk break before running to the finish line. Finish time was 26:48. Happy running everyone.
Morning Damien and fellow PR attendees. 😀 Marshal Point 7 for Flossie and I at Eastville this morning. Our favourite, as you get to see runners 99% of the time, and it’s fun to encourage them up the steep hill from the lake.
Heading home now to get ready for my New Forest exploits.
Next week I’m in Worcester for the 10k so it’ll be a week off parkrun. MrU I think is going to Eastvillr to catch up on our challenge-12 in a year. I’m two ahead now!!
Worcester race is my birthday present to myself (not on my actual birthday). Enjoy your party-depending on how old they are, that could count as cross training of some sort!!
Great photo of Flossie doing her barkmarshalling at Marshall Point 7 although I doubt if she actually barks at runners, a very well behaved dog, I wish you well for tomorrow.
A comedy of errors for me at Marine Parade this morning! All stemmed from me faffing around and leaving late. I couldn’t remember where to park and spent ages finding the car park. Then my app wouldn’t work. Then I didn’t have enough change for the machine. I couldn’t quite remember where the start was but I had a big clue when I exited the car park and started jogging towards the sea front only to see about 200 people running towards me. 🤦♀️. Missed the start again. Jogged back to the official beginning and began catching up wit the tail walkers. Still, it was a lovely run. Did a mix of comfortably hard tempo pace with a minute brisk walk every mile. That was great and my unofficial “chip time” from my garmin began with a 27 which hasn’t happened since pre covid. A great confidence boost before the Worcester City 10k next week.
Oh no MissUnderstanding ! Never mind though, sounds you had a great run regardless. They’re back on the prom now aren’t they? I always avoid PR there during the summer months as it’s on the beach. Have you ever braved the sand? 😳
I’ve only run on the prom which is nice-I love how it’s wide enough that you don’t get surrounded by others, although the twice that I’ve run it I’ve been really late and away from the pack from most of it!!! I’ve enjoyed that a lot,
A friend did the Weston super half and hated the sand. I’d be a bit nervous about taking it on. I think I’d try it for a novelty one off!
Yes it’s lovely and wide isn’t it? I do my long runs there as well as PR. They claim the sand is compacted, but I’m still not keen. You must report back if you brave it! 😀
Thank you- I think it probably did!! I had to work pretty hard at the start to keep it sensible and not just put on an all-out sprint to catch up with everyone. Think that would have made the rest of the run much less enjoyable but it was nice to have a bit of a target to aim for!
I’ve been late more times than I care to remember and have had to work to catch the tail walker! My times aren’t even close to yours though. Well done. Xx
Hi Damien and other parkrunners, like waiting ages for a bus then two come together I waited two years before I got a sub 33 minutes time at Palacerigg Country parkrun then got two in consecutive weeks, although not a PB this morning my time today was 32;23, only 7 seconds slower than last weeks PB at the same parkrun, next week I am a marshall at Palacerigg, by the way today was Palacerigg's 100 th parkrun and there was cake at the finishing line.
Yes, at the finishing point I had a piece of cake celebrating their 100th parkrun, also a caramel short cake and one cup cake, so when I got home I did not eat my usual ice cream chocolate swirl, I'll eat that later today, there was a runner who is running The Great North Run tomorrow, good luck to her and everyone else running that tomorrow.
After last week’s hustle and bustle of Bushy Park, today I came to Crane Park. One of London’s quietest parkruns with an average 150 runners each week.
I came with a friend from my run club who’s also on a mission to do every parkrun in London.
The run is along the river Crane, a Thames tributary, and it has a really interesting character along each bank of the river. The south-bank, where the run starts is on trails and the north-bank where it finishes, is on tarmac.
Happy to be back at parkrun, after almost 2 months of not doing it.
It is amazing. There was one time where I'd planned to do one, but I would have been late. So I just got off the bus a few stops earlier and did another one that was on the same bus route.
It’s a racing weekend so UpTheStanley and I opted to volunteer at nearby Great Salterns parkrun to help out. It is much smaller than Southsea, with an average of 75 runners, and The Event Director used to be ED at Southsea.
UTS was marshal at post 8 (only 3 marshals volunteered this week) and I did timekeeping. Well that was a doddle with only 48 runners today; the biggest bunch being 3. The first finisher holds the record at most parkruns around here, and will most likely be running at the New Forest tomorrow too. It was lovely to be part of a small parkrun for a change. Lots of parkrun tourists, 2 were walking it in vintage costume before heading for the Revival Festival at Chichester.
Sorry, no photos as I was scared to lose my timings.
Good luck to you and UTS for your New Forest 10K tomorrow, I am sure you enjoyed being the timekeeper with only 48 runners instead of the 300+ at Southsea, the parkrun I attended this morning had 116 taking part which is around 40 more than usual, probably due to it being it's 100th parkrun.
with a 10k tomorrow I opted to walk parkrun this morning. I was a tourist and the course was beautiful and the tailwalker great company. Mr Shakes decided he would like to walk too so he was signed up and completed his very first parkrun, maybe he will walk some more in the future. It was quite a morning though, as we cycled 5 miles on some trails before and after. A great way to explore the New Forest! Sandie1961 was there too with Mr Sandie. I’ll leave her to tell her own tale.
Mr S and I met up with Shake-and-run and Mr Shakes on the New Forest Showground in our vans yesterday ready for our 10k tomorrow. Left the Midlands in beautiful sunny weather, arrived in torrential rain and it’s been pretty wet ever since. However, we couldn’t be deterred from a bit of tourism and, as it was dry this morning, the 4 of us jumped on our bikes for the 5 mile ride to the start. Well worth it as it was the most stunning course, a single lap through the forest on gravel trails. Beautiful 😍 I ran down the hills and along the flat bits, but walked up the hills to save my legs, finishing in 36.23, while Shakes and hubbies walked (Mr S 1st parkrun, but not recorded because he didn’t get around to registering 🤦♀️) Then a bike ride back to the campsite and breakfast baps all round in the van. Fingers crossed for a drier day tomorrow 🤞
I did Southampton parkrun and walked/trotted around in 41:33. There were ‘only’ 953 runners which didn’t seem many compared with the wonderful Bushy madness last week.
Saving some energy for tomorrow’s New Forest 10k. Can’t wait for the VRB meet up 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃💃
Last week I thought I'd be missing today's parkrun due to granddaughter duties - but everything got pushed back, enabling me to have another crack at my first sub 31 parkrun since the hernia event. Well, long story short, I came in at 30.51 - mission accomplished! Next target, sub 30. Btw, both asleep now - let's hope it stays that way! 🤞
Fantastic effort Jonathan. Great result and super running. Bit by bit you’ll get back to sub 30 mins. I know you’re on your way. Do delighted for you as I remember how long you had to wait for that surgery. You’re bouncing back brilliantly.
New Volunteer Role. I have a few longer runs to try to fit in this week as part of my NRC 10k Training Plan so I decided not to run at parkrun this week. As a result I thought I would try a different volunteering role to my usual. Generally I do First Timer’s Welcome, parkwalker or tailwalker and have marshalled once or twice. Yesterday myself and the lovely Kate from Lancing Eagles did finish tokens at Worthing parkrun. Both of us were new to the role. If I do say so myself, we made a cracking team. It was a very rewarding role and it was the closest I’ll ever get to holding those lower numbered tokens! On top of which , at Worthing, we have a little competition amongst the volunteers to guess how many participants we have on the day. My guess was 584 and as Ken Bruce would say, I was 1 (year) out and came closest to the final figure which was 585, unless there were any adjustments. I can totally recommend parkrun, however you participate, it truly is a great start to the weekend. Xx
Wow that’s impressive RunKRun , just being “one year out”! Glad you enjoyed your new volunteering role yesterday - it really is as good as running isn’t it? 😀
I did my second-ever park run yesterday. Slightly slower than my first (which is probably a good thing). Still a long way to go before I feel at all comfortable with this distance but intending to do a couple of parkruns while we visit the Lake District over the next couple of weeks. So we shall see...
Very well done on completing your second parkrun. Enjoy parkrun touring in the Lake District. Running Achievements and 5K App are two very good parkrun apps. You can see where your closest parkrun is whenever you are away from home.
Hi all, yet another Saturday without a Parkrun, I had to juggle my running plan around a bit and unfortunately the parkrun missed out, I did do an 8k run around the local forestry track late on Saturday and then spent 7 hours on Sunday standing in the rain being a marshal for my triathlon club event, I was supposed to have been taking part in this myself but my asthma messed up my preparation so I did my bit for the club instead by wearing the hi-viz, apart from the rain it was a good day with 100/150 athletes taking part, all ages and levels of athlete from first timers to people using it as a "warm up" for the Ironman Wales event in a couple of weeks. Despite the weather I think everybody had a good day. 🙂
