The demon cat waited until almost 6.30 before getting us up this morning, it’s a day off so a run day. It’s been too hot to run after work this week so after dripping in an office all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday in full scrubs and mask we dashed straight to the beach and into the sea,
I was just getting ready in shorts and tee shirt when a text came through from a colleague, Nooo i thought, i really don’t want to go in today! but when i read it she’d run out of something and so i dropped it through the window on the way to our park.
The run, it felt cool under the trees, but first kilometre we were a bit reluctant and it felt hard. A few people were out with their dogs so a few cheery good mornings were exchanged, all dogs ignored us and we gave them plenty of room between us, on we went, welcome relief under the trees but it sure is hot. 8.29 is a bit fast for me, Willow just a fraction slower.
Second kilometre was slower and more enjoyable, reached 2k at 17.53 mins and decided to finish with a quick sprint and 20 mins. 2.22k longer runs can wait for it to cool down a little.
Average pace 9 and best pace 4.59 which is possibly my fastest even though it only lasted for a few seconds
Keep cool, happy running

Well done for braving the heat this morning, I've chickened out! Wow you did finish with a bang, 4:59 is a.ma.zing 🙌 even if it was a few seconds, that was a proper sprint 👏👏👏 lovely cooling photo of the beach 🌊
I can just imagine how wonderful it must have felt getting into the sea after work long hot days at work. It's so lovely to be able to run into some shady trees after a sunny stretch 👍
My arms and hands are ripped to pieces, we’ve worked out it attention seeking so every time he comes near me i pick him up and make a big fuss of him, was doing well for a couple of days until last evening h brought me a present from outside but dropped it down beside me and scrabbled to pick it up again between me and the sofa arm, blood everywhere again (sighs) The sea…..we are so lucky to live so near
Poor Parker being called a demon cat. Must say though that we never had scratching problems or so with our Sierra. She has been with us since she was 15 weeks old. But then again she also has never been really playful (might be because of a chronic illness). She did used to like to hold your hand and kick it with her back legs. Which could be a little be auchie when her nails were just cut and sharp. Lily we only have since her 11 (or something) years old and so far she never scratched us (on purpose). She does like to bite my fingers when she's being petted.
Anyhow, this is a forum about running! Short or long, you ran and that is what counts. In these temperatures, it's not always wise to go for a long run. You have to keep it smart, a bit of exercise but not too much.
You should see my arms! The run was great and made me happy, we will keep them short our runs until it cools down,
Well done on getting out there this morning. I didn’t on purpose though as I’ve bought myself some skipping ropes or jump ropes as the new word is. Anyway I when I saw them on Amazon they were just what I needed .
Wooden handles and blue white stripes rope.. brilliant! So this morning out in the garden to do some cardio workout. I was surprised at how easy it was to get back into skipping. Didn’t do it for long as it was extremely hot. So perhaps little and often is the key?🤔
The sea isn’t freezing either, Worthing seafront is nice to run on as wide and flat but not really long enough, we run there in winter when less busy, you picked good weather
Ha, that demon cat, I bet she loves you, although it's annoying at 6.30am.Good run for you today W&S, lovely photo of what looks like a very quiet beach. 😊
Vet did that last time but he’s doing it less since I started making a fuss of him whenever he comes near so i think it was attention he wanted, he went for his pre op check today and he was just perfect sat on the vet table so well behaved
I bet you couldn’t wait to jump into the sea! My daughter and granddaughter have been posting photos of them in the sea at Hove on Instagram. The sea was so clear and calm!
Holidays by the sea were a big part of my childhood. 🥰
Ah what a lovely photo, it looks so peaceful. A very well done for getting out there! I meant to go out first thing this morning but after another bad night’s sleep due to the heat I’ve just had to admit I’m not a robot and what will be will be! All the best 😊🏃♀️😊🏃♀️😊🍅.
How do you know and trust that the sea water is clean? We had such a deluge last week that I think sewage will have been sent out into our seawater. Folks are saying it smells. Stopped sea swimming after a bug from swimming in Worthing many years ago but it would be nice to swim now we're back on the south coast and the water is warmer - well, relatively!
I take a chance, shower afterwards, the same way that I walk around n a shop and take a chance that i don’t catch something by touching something someone else infected. There were loads of people in the sea and I sure they didn’t all wash their hands before they went in so i follow what gives me the best chance to keep safe
And yes the sea does smell a bit, slightly fishy, seaweedy smell that is the beauty of being in the sea
Oh, I don’t drink it either, if you caught a bug it’s 99% certain it was from something you swallowed
☹️ Unfortunately two of our local beaches have had red flags in the last week. Many up in arms here about our polluted sea water. Sorry for negative comments. Glad all is well further east. Enjoy your swimming.
Well done for still finding a way to run in the heat and sounds like a good one indeed when many of us are declining to run until it's cooler, including me!As for the cat, I was alarmed to read of your wounds and although I've thought about having a cat, I'm thinking again! Glad to hear you're also sea swimming, not only a gorgeous way for you to de-stress and cool off, but getting salt water on those scratches will help healing. Take care.
Thank you so much Raisemeup, I think our kitten is particularly bitey and scratchy. If you get one go for one that has siblings and watch them play together, this one came with few social skills but he will grow out of most of it with gentle handling, oh and lots of toys to wave on the end of a long stick 😀
