That was a surprise

Woke early today and had a look here, what a lot of lovely comments I had for yesterdays feeling sorry for me post! Thank you all, that was a surprise.

6.30am, should I sneak out while Willow is still sleeping? where shall I run? how far shall I go? It’s all about me now which feels a bit strange

Anyway I didn’t get out early, and I still wasn’t sure where I was going but my daughters voice kept popping in my head saying “It’s just under 5k to the pier, if you ran to the end of the pier and back you’d just about get 10k by the time you got home.

NRC long run this week is another 10k, I set off slowly with music, coach Bennett 15 minutes to the seafront cross the road and turn right, sea is beautiful, but I’m running into a 17mph south westerly and although cooling my face it’s hard going. At least harder than lately.

But oh this is so good, slow and steady, so much to see, people, cyclists, seagulls, heading towards town, pass a coffee van, getting hot, there’s some sand, the tide is coming in, wonder if there will be enough to run back along the waters edge?

My daughter was right, 4.5k and i’m almost at the pier, smells of town, candy floss, hot chocolate, coffee, run to the end of the pier, pause to take a photo, run back the other side and… not at all sensible but down across the stones and turn for home.

Now the wind is behind me but I’m running out of energy, I put 3 jelly babies in the little waist pocket of my shorts, never done that before, undid the zip. put my fingers in and eeeww a sticky mess of melted jelly babies, I’ll never do that again I thought as i licked my fingers

Now you might imagine flat sand glistening i. the sun… not here, bits of stones bits of slimy seaweed, puddles, lots of seagulls and a few dead fish, I think the seagulls had something to do with that.

cut through the park we usually run round, past the lake, round the track, and under some trees, bliss pure bliss.

Back into the road, over the bridge and nearly home, in total 10.40k and I cut 2 seconds per kilometre off my last run so my second slowest or third fastest.

Willow had kept an eye on where i was and poured the tea as i walked in the door.

It was a last minute decision to do the long run and I’m glad I did

Run happy or rest well

The photo is from the end of the pier looking back towards home

Fabulous Sola! What a great run. I bet that wind blew a few cobwebs out 😁. When I think back to how hot it was this time last week though I bet it was lovely. And how nice to have a cup of tea all ready and waiting. 😊

Thank you, I’m not really comfortable with 10k yet so a few shorter runs to recover and then I’ll do another one

Well done on your 10 km, with lovely scenery and blue sky. That’s the best kind of runs the unexpected., and to have a well done cup of tea waiting for you, what else can you ask for. 👏👏😊

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Doris8

Not more of course, although if I was being greedy I’d ask for faster legs 😂 you can walk it way faster than i can run it

That probably was a one off. Hip bothering me just now so have to slow down a bit.

Well done Sola, that sounds a great 10k run, and Coach Bennett does say run into the wind first so it’s easier on the way home . Unfortunately our parkrun is usually the opposite way round.

‘‘Twas a little breezy, I wouldn’t have completed any quicker though without the wind

It was pretty silly really, but I’m glad I went, I haven’t done much else today apart from a dog walk this evening

Dog walk? What have I missed? 🙀

Congratulations on your 10k long run. You are making excellent progress with the HM plan. Sorry to hear Willow wasn't enjoying the runs but so glad you achieved your goal this morning and the kettle was on to greet you when you got back. Lovely place to run.

Sounds like a great run and lovely views. Are you using Strava for Willow to keep an eye on where you are? I never use the beacon alerts on there but maybe in the winter on the dark runs I shy as my other half always worries when I go out with my runnt on my own at home ( doesn't worry me at all, I have to add!)

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Hedgehogs123

Thank you, no we have find my iphone which he checks every so often to see if i’m still moving, my garmin has alerts but he’s a bit hopeless with alerts

Wow, thank you again for an inspiring message and photo.

You live in a magical place, just notice how that 17mph souwesterly hits the land and starts building up cloud cover. On the coast you get so much sunlight.

..... and many congratulations on your pace, well done

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to 59er

I think the thing is that i’m really slow so most of it is easy, yesterdays 2k was much faster so felt harder

But you're getting there, that's what counts. Slow and steady wins the race 🙂
