Woke early today and had a look here, what a lot of lovely comments I had for yesterdays feeling sorry for me post! Thank you all, that was a surprise.
6.30am, should I sneak out while Willow is still sleeping? where shall I run? how far shall I go? It’s all about me now which feels a bit strange
Anyway I didn’t get out early, and I still wasn’t sure where I was going but my daughters voice kept popping in my head saying “It’s just under 5k to the pier, if you ran to the end of the pier and back you’d just about get 10k by the time you got home.
NRC long run this week is another 10k, I set off slowly with music, coach Bennett 15 minutes to the seafront cross the road and turn right, sea is beautiful, but I’m running into a 17mph south westerly and although cooling my face it’s hard going. At least harder than lately.
But oh this is so good, slow and steady, so much to see, people, cyclists, seagulls, heading towards town, pass a coffee van, getting hot, there’s some sand, the tide is coming in, wonder if there will be enough to run back along the waters edge?
My daughter was right, 4.5k and i’m almost at the pier, smells of town, candy floss, hot chocolate, coffee, run to the end of the pier, pause to take a photo, run back the other side and… not at all sensible but down across the stones and turn for home.
Now the wind is behind me but I’m running out of energy, I put 3 jelly babies in the little waist pocket of my shorts, never done that before, undid the zip. put my fingers in and eeeww a sticky mess of melted jelly babies, I’ll never do that again I thought as i licked my fingers
Now you might imagine flat sand glistening i. the sun… not here, bits of stones bits of slimy seaweed, puddles, lots of seagulls and a few dead fish, I think the seagulls had something to do with that.
cut through the park we usually run round, past the lake, round the track, and under some trees, bliss pure bliss.
Back into the road, over the bridge and nearly home, in total 10.40k and I cut 2 seconds per kilometre off my last run so my second slowest or third fastest.
Willow had kept an eye on where i was and poured the tea as i walked in the door.
It was a last minute decision to do the long run and I’m glad I did
Run happy or rest well
The photo is from the end of the pier looking back towards home
