Another 60 mins

Hiya,

I know I said I would do whatever I wanted for a while, but I find it hard to know what I want without following a plan. It is weekend and 2 days after my previous run on Friday (which was cut short to 20 mins due to unforeseen circumstances) and thus I thought, so why not another 60 minutes? I don't know what else I would do. So 60 minutes it was going to be.

The first 5 mins were as often too fast, but I quickly after got in a good rhythm and speed. I felt the rhythm and could keep it up very well. But I did not feel 'in' the run, if you know what I mean. There is this feeling when you really feel INTO a run and I did not get it at all in the run. I was running and it felt good, but the 'zone' did not come.

At 40 minutes I felt my legs tire a bit, but I could keep going without extra effort. At about 50 mins I felt a niggle in my right groin again (last week I had 10 to 15 minutes of actual pain in my right groin), but it stayed a niggle and did not shift to pain. That was good. And I reached the 60 mins without too much trouble. I felt I might be able to reach a bit more still.

I am thinking though to take once again 2 days of rest instead of 1 day. It IS a long run after all and there was the slight niggle in my groin. 3 runs a week is enough and it does not always have to be 3 to 4 runs a week, right?

I did struggle again with my Powergel Shots though. 30 seconds walking break is too little to finish 1 shot, because of which I struggle with breathing + munching the shot while running and I end up being a bit tired for a few minutes. Maybe I should cut them in 2 and nibble a half or take 60 secs walking break to finish a shot. Think think think...

Either way, that is another 60 minutes dusted and done ☺

Cheers, Evy

What a pretty picture! 🌺 Glad you had a run! On rest days, I guess the best judge is you, sometimes 2,3 is what your body needs.

in reply tolimu_mu

Thanks! I have always taken 1 rest day mostly, except when life intervenes and more than 1 can't be avoided. But last week I took 2 after my first 60 mins. Both because of the groin pain and the fact 60 mins is a 'long' run. So I think that from now on I will take 2 days rest after a run of 60 mins or more. Just to be on the safe side.

Well done on another 60 minute run ! And good the niggle didn't get any worse .

It's tricky to run and eat/drink .

I don't usually bother if I'm going less than 10k but whenever I do try to drink I usually just end up getting it all over me 😂

in reply toInstructor57

Yeah it's definitely tricky! I don't run with water yet,?but will maybe do so as soon as I have my gear back (itcs in our chalet at the coast and we have not yet gone back this year). I have this small flexible water'bottle' with a sipping top. It makes it easier to drink, but swallowing is yet another thing! 😂

If I'm on a longer run I have a belt that holds 2 small bottles, but I certainly have not mastered taking them out and drinking without getting soaked 😂

in reply toInstructor57

Try the regular plastic cups in an organised race... Nice in hot weather, cus you get a free shower. In bad weather... not so nice 😂

My favourite tree, glad you had a good run

in reply toSueAppleRun

There are 3 of them that I know off on my route. 1 is already losing the blossoms, the other 2 are still strong ☺

We have a small one in the garden which isn’t quite in flower yet, loads around though

Well done Evy. Being random is harder than following a plan if you like being organised. But it's also liberating too if you can do it. Glad the groin didn't cause trouble.

in reply toLifluf

I do am a rather organised person (even if some closets don't show it). Also at work I want / need a clear overview and clear instructions and such. I guess 'do what you want' is difficult for me. Oh well, I will just see where I am being led ☺

Great that you decided to do another 60 mins - just because you could! 😉 I wonder how long it will be before you decide to go for the 10k???? But if you are enjoying yourself then that's the main thing.

in reply toFionamags

Not long... kinda decided today to just keep lengthening my weekend runs. Not decided yet whether it will be with 5 mins each week / each 2 weeks or something else. But I feel like a lost chick without a plan, so...

Ha ha ha I am exactly the same. Finished c25k saying oh yes, lovely - that'll do me! Then boredom set in and it was, well I'll just go for 60 minutes - I've absolutely no interest in 10k. And on it goes..... 🤣🤣🤣

in reply toFionamags

10K, 10 miles, half marathon, marathon, ... Though with my 'speed'? 😳

Speed is no barrier - I am pretty much the same as you. Once I'm back to 10k I might have a crack at 10 miles. But anything further will need to wait until I retire - as I'll be out all day. 🤣🤣🤣

in reply toFionamags

So true! I think if I ever participate in a marathon, everything is cleaned up and all the streets open for traffic by the time I reach the finish...

Well done you! Another 60 minutes in the bag. I think a 2 day rest is sensible, which seeing as you wrote this post 2 days ago probably means you’re running again today! If so have a great run 🏃‍♀️👏🏼😀.

in reply toFrenc

Weird... it does days 2 days ago. I ran on Sunday, meaning 2 days rest is running again on Wednesday? Monday and Tuesday off... Wednesday running? And then Friday and Sunday running again. I'm thinking I am going to keep it like this for now. In the past I ran every other day, because of which I ran 7 times in 14 days. I'm now going to keep 2 days rest after my long run, because of which I'll run 6 times in 14 days. Still good, no? Only will have to see how to arrange it when I leave for the coast on Friday instead of on Saturday. But we're not there yet.

I think 2 days is really sensible - I tend to rest 2 days now after a long run as it makes a big difference to how my legs feel. How nice you’re going to the coast, it’s good to have a change of scene! 😊😊😊

in reply toFrenc

We're not going yet. We have a chalet there, already longer than I am old. We always go on weekends from April till November. But last year we went less and this year probably too. It's changed a lot (other people than before) and is not soooo pleasant anymore than it used to be. Plus my dad is getting old and driving there is becoming more difficult (and neither me nor my mom dare drive those highways ourselves). Plus with our second cat (which is actually from there) who hates driving, all those things combines makes that we only go when the weather promises to be nice enough. Not cold (the cold comes inside the chalet), not rainy, etc. So we don't go all that often anymore. But it is very nice there, we are very close near the beach + right in the middle of fields and such. So for running it is really fun. I love running between the fields up to the cemetery (it's about 5 km back and forth) and cycling between the fields further inland and such. We won't keep going there for many years anymore due to the combined facts. But I will surely miss it...
