It is our national holiday here in Belgium because of which I have a day off. Did not feel like running yesterday, so thought to run this morning. Breakfast at 7:30 and out the door at 9:30.
I decided on having a slow run, slower than normal. The first 10 minutes were no fun, sleepy legs and all that. After 10 minutes I decided to up the cadence a bit (not the speed) and it went better. After 15 minutes I was in a good zone of running and the run became pleasant.
As it is a free day, I thought to go longer than my regular 30 minutes. My previous run was 50 minutes (Sunday), so maybe 40 or again 50 minutes? Somewhere in the run though 60 minutes popped up in my mind and Icould not shake it loose.
At 45 minutes my legs started to feel a bit tired, but the 60 minutes were stuck in my head. I took along some water and sipped it every 10 minutes. No jellies, as I had not planned for 60 minutes. But I succeeded in reaching the 60 minutes without being too exhausted (thanks to Jeffing 4:30 / 0:30). Ended up at 6,72 km in 60 minutes.
Almost all people I passed said a friendly hello back. There was this 1 man with his dog which I passed 3 times (I see him regularly on my runs). The last time I passed him, I had done running and was in my cooling down walk. Had a small chat with him and he said he was proud that I was growing so well in my running.
I started in 19 degrees in the shade (unfortunately there is not that much shade on my route), but came home as a tomato. Did put sunscreen factor 100+ on my face (I have sun allergy), but forgot to put any on my arm or legs. Luckily they are not really burned.
Oooh well done! 60 minutes is a great target and you achieved it. I’m getting to be gently tanned as I run so early when the sun isn’t so strong. I put sunscreen on when I remember. How do you increase cadence but not speed?
Always nice to have a chat with someone! I regularly see a man walking 6 golden retrievers and a springer spaniel! I long to ask him if they are all his and how he gets them to walk so nicely, all in a row. but I’m always in the middle of running!
Ehm... I honestly don't know for sure if speed does not increase. Thought my second kilometer was 1 second slower than my first kilometer, so there the speed was the same with the faster cadence as with the slower cadence. I think I just speed up my cadence a bit and try to slow down a bit. That combination gives the same speed if that makes any sence? My other splits were negative though, so during the run I did apparently speed up.
6 dogs in 1 go? They must be very well behaved for the guy not to be draggd in all directions!
When you see him again please ask him how he manages to get the springer spaniel to walk nicely on a lead at all, let alone in a straight line.Ours we had as kids was totally demented
Might be that you are becoming more used to it, it’s only that I’m working later and won’t get to bed much before midnight that we kept it so short today
Great run for your day off. You’re doing well on the longer runs especially in heat. That’s not a bad temperature to run in. I was out a walk at 6.00 and it was 15 degrees but Misty so cool. Good temperature, I don’t like the heat . Ok to sit in but not to run. Good 👍 for you😊
That’s a brilliant run Evy, well done. I know what you mean about the cadence, but it’s difficult to explain! Runs when you don’t have to go to work are so much more enjoyable and relaxing, and that’s lovely the man said he was proud of you - and so he should be! 😊🏃♀️😊🏃♀️😊
Yeah, no work means running in the morning when the legs are still fresh (though sleepy) and the weather is often better. Unfortunately work does exist, so if I run tomorrow (Friday) it will be after 4 pm again...
Great running. 60 minutes is a significant chunk of time to be on your feet, especially in those temperatures. It's nice not to have the time pressure of getting back for work isn't it?
