Wednesday Wiggle with Oldfloss

Thank you for the music Oldfloss I started with Brave and filled my playlist with lots of old favourites.

The plan was to leave home, head to the seafront, run to the next town, run along the road, over the bridge, alongside the river to the bridge where we usually start a run, Willow was to meet me there and run the last bit with me.

Off I went, nice warm up walk, a wiggle in my walk as music filled my ears, I knew 10k is pushing it a bit so included the warm up walk. onto the main road, not too many cars, up and over the bridge, makes me grin to think I used to have to walk over that bridge. Towards the seafront, cross the road and left turn.

I enjoyed this so much, the excitement of seeing the world around me, I can see the sea, I can see the beach huts, I’m running really slow, I’m going a long way and I want to run as much of it as I can.

Almost to the ladies that caused such a dilemma last long run, should I shouldn’t I? oh for goodness sake woman just pop in and go, and later I was glad I did.

The tide is quite high, the sea iron grey, a paddle would be lovely, 4 k in and a paddle would be wonderful, no keep going, very slow but keeping going, the end of the seafront and head back towards the road, turn right at the roundabout. A leggy girl/woman in running shorts and pink socks is walking in front of me and I can’t quite keep up, I met her later along the river she didn’t go far and it was nice to exchange a greeting

Cross the road and speed up a little, I feel ok and very happy. Ah, the river, over the bridge, round the blocks of flats, and here I am, running on familiar track, bit cobbley, I forgot that, then it smooths out to gravel. 7k and I realise I’m going to have to keep going past the bridge and back again as it’s not quite far enough. Ran to 8k and a bit more then turned, oh now I’m flagging. As I ran back towards the bridge there was Willow walking towards me 😀he turned and handed me fresh tissue, perfect man. We ran back towards the bridge and just over 9 K to the car where Willow handed me a bottle of water, a couple of sips perked me up and after a few steps walking I ran on then back then done 😄

I’d love to be faster so I could do that in half the time but I’m just so pleased I can run best part of 10k with hardly any walking and feel so good.

Run or rest happy all

Wonderful run for you today Sola, well done on running that 10K without hardly any walking, nice of Willow giving you water when you met him. 😊 🏃🏾 👍

Well done Sola. Lovely place to run, beside the sea, especially this weather. You are inspirational too as I am approaching that run in the NRC plan and feeling a bit apprehensive as I haven't run 10 K this year.

I’ve only run 10k twice before and neither of them this year, I found with the 8k run I’d worn myself out and was taking walking breaks from 6k onwards so I set off really slow and mostly got slower but got there. Next time though Willow will drive me whatever distance away and I will run home as I really don’t seem to like turning round

It was delicious, I took water with me last time but it’s cooler today, mind you hot for running 21 degrees. I can get cross about my mouth because they’ve poked about cut it around, left me with the challenge of eating and still haven’t come up with a treatment plan, so I work and I run

Sounds great! There is nothing like running for connecting with the landscape IMO, moving faster than walking, but with no mechanical assistance. 👍

I could have walked faster by the end, but now I have a few shorter faster runs to do and it all adds strength to my legs, I started slow so i could keep going

Starting slow is definitely a smart approach! 👍💪🏃‍♀️

That is absolutely brilliant! 10k! 🙌🙌 It may be slower than you'd like but you're building strength and fitness and it's just glorious to be out there running again, isn't it 😀 and what a beautiful route! Very well done 👏👏👏

Thanks, it was lovely to be out there, the weekend just flashed past with children and grands beach and fireworks and not a run in sight, unless you count running along the seafront with a 5 and a 6 year old catching them before i lost them. I’ve swum a lot so it was tempting to swim instead but I so wanted to just run

Running after small children is still running - like coach Bennett always says "every run has a purpose" 😉😁 it sounds like a lovely weekend, must make the most of these beautiful summer days we're having at the moment! Although my garden really could do with some rain. I know what you mean about wanting to run, that's exactly how I was feeling yesterday. Not walking, not swimming, I just wanted to run ☺️

Running around with the children and splashing in and out the sea is exhausting, I’d rather run slowly for a long time, I still wish I wasn’t so slow though as it takes so long, the next few runs are times not distance though and I may stick with them for a while, I’m off to London to see Abba Monday and not back til Tuesday, then back at work Wednesday so the shorter after work runs will be perfect, my garden is beginning to look a bit sad but when it does rain it will perk up again

Very well done W&S, it’s warm out there and 20k is a massive achievement. I’ve just realised it’s only 7 weeks till my 10k race so I’d better get my act together and join you.

Thanks Dexy, we’ll I’ll never enter a race but I do love going the longer distances, 7 weeks eek 😱 wishing you lots of luck on the day

That’s a cracking run there you did! I wanted to be by the beach huts with you, and have a paddle in the sea as well. Brilliant, well done! 😊

I resisted the paddle but I have swim loads lately, one run i came back along the sand and as soon as it was over i went straight in the sea shorts trainers and all, but lately I’ve changed under a towel on the beach

Well done Sola! Pace doesn’t matter, you did it! 👏👏👏

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to TailChaser

Thanks 😊 although it’s beginning to matter to me, I spent time on that run wondering why I’m so slow, I can go faster but always end up really slow and it’s my legs rather than my lungs i think so shorter sprints coupled with loads of squats

They do help unfortunately!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to TailChaser

I do 10 here and there throughout the day so 50 plus squats a day, legs are quite toned for an old girl 😃
