Back to 5k - Hooray!

β€’42 Replies

When I wrote my January Quests on Oldfloss and Mummycav's post at the beginning of the month, I chose one of my targets to be back to running 5k by the end of the month after my injury last November.

January's been a busy month, what with work and volunteering, and my progress has tailed off as squeezing everything into my days has been tricky. I have managed Adriene's wonderful Breath yoga, but the running has been on the slide which opened the door to pesky gremlins and that way danger lies.....😱. The problem was, the longer the gap between runs the more the pesky gremlins began to mutter and I began to question if I could make 5k. Today they were really naughty.....

😈 "It's raining Delly....and it's really cold and windy," said one.

πŸ‘Ώ "It's so much cosier inside in front of the fire," said the other.

But then I got a little message that nudged me in the right direction and I got myself out there thanks to Mummycav who has been quietly encouraging me along.

It feels so good to have met that 5k target - it was a goal that was proving a bit of a mental barrier more than a physical one. Today I quietened the grumbling gremlins πŸ˜ˆπŸ”¨πŸ‘ΏπŸ”¨ and I've got a little bit of self-belief back. I even managed to sneak in under 40 minutes which was a bonus surprise. I've also just run into Scotland on LEJOG5, so that's another win!

So to anyone else who is finding the going a bit tough at the moment, you're not on your own - do post, do ask for help. There is always someone here to pick you up and encourage you on.

Happy running everyone πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

Hooray indeed! Well done Delly-dot!

Well done there Hidden what an achievement πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹, as for that blumin yoga stuff 😬, I've tried stuff with belts as suggested by CBDB omg the ouch factor.... And then Dutch-Fraggle showed a balancing act that quite frankly a 52 yr old bloke should never ever try ( he speaks from experience 😳) ok so the gentle flexibility poses I'm cool with them, the old backs a little easier after a few downward dogs etc but! I've got to say running is definitely easier than those tricky positions πŸ₯΄

Ah, yes 'Crow pose' - I saw her post. I'm just about there but do admit to a strategically placed cushion in case of face-planting! I'm impressed you have had a go at the bloomin' yoga stuff πŸ˜‰.... we'll make a yogi of you yet 🧘🏼.

β€’ in reply to

Omg don't mention that crow pose I can feel my knees going already 😬

Brilliant DD.!! Such an optimistic post. I've been sidelined for two weeks but still managed the yoga. You're right about the gremlins. I just need to get out. Knee feeling slightly better so I'm going to try and get back out. Won't be anywhere near 5k but you gotta start somewhere πŸ₯΄ thanks for the post 🀩

β€’ in reply toAllbarron

Hello! Lovely to here from you Allbarron. The first step out of the door is the hardest one. Take it gently. My first run back after injury was planned to be a 2.5k but ended up 3k. Good luck πŸ€—

Well done Delly-dot that's great news and a brilliant way to end your January quest. Boo to ask those pesky gremlins you showed them 😊

I need help. Have done three days of Adrienne,....does it get better? Find it gets harder and her flawless transition from downward dog is depressingly fluid. Just can’t do it . I did 3 k the other day at snails pace and have so many gremlins who are just being very obstructive. I want to get back into my running routine. Any tips gratefully received

β€’ in reply toTimotea

First a big hug πŸ€— for you Timotea.

The gremlins seem to have crept out of the woodwork for a few of us this month it seems.... it’s a sign of the times I think and a good reason to be kind to ourselves and each other.

Well done on your 3k πŸ‘πŸΌπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ. Any run in the weather we’ve had lately is an achievement 😊. Mummycav got me going again by suggesting we run a joint 5k on the last Saturday of the month, so how about we do the same? I was running 3ks at the start of January so my starting point was the same as yours and I just increased bit by bit. Would you like to do that? It would help me too.

I love Adriene’s yoga, so I can only say do stick with it. Transition slowly into your downward dogs- she hangs about there for a while before she moves into the next pose. Slow/repeat the video to watch her. It does get easier.

Although I’ve been doing yoga for years I have always found sitting cross legged really uncomfortable. I decided to really try and work on it for this yoga month. I’m sitting on a block and it certainly helps. I’m a long way from perfect but I’m improving πŸ˜‰πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ. πŸ€—

Thanks DD . That sounds like a brilliant idea. I seem to be suffering from Covid lethargy when everything requires huge effort. Have got day 4 Of Adriene tomorrow as so will persevere. Last Saturday of the month sounds good. Can’t run as fast as you so do we just do the run and report back? Thanks for your support DD, hugely appreciated.

β€’ in reply toTimotea

Great! I’m glad you’re up for it 😊. It will be helping me too. We just run at a time to suit ourselves, but it’d be fun if we headed out around the same time. That’s so weather dependent though!

Perfect. Am up for that. Feel better already. πŸ˜€

It’s a date - I’ve put it in my diary (first thing I’ve written in it for months!) πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ 😊

Thank you! Guess I missed yesterday’s but next one in diary. Making marmalade today but will do Adrienne grumbling loudly throughout especially with the funny breathing ...then attempt a 5k. Weather is lovely although cold.

β€’ in reply toTimotea

I’ve got the house to myself this morning as everyone’s out doing their thing - volunteering for hubby and weekend jobs for the teenagers - so I have some me time to do my yoga πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ.

Wow!!! Big yesss!!! Nice one!! πŸ™ŒπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ½ 5ks are my favourite distance at the moment!

β€’ in reply toCBDB

Thank you CBDB 😊. I think I’ll consolidate my 5ks for a while and perhaps go in search of some Zombies πŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈ πŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈ πŸ˜†

I am SO proud of you Hidden ....I enjoyed our β€˜joint’ run...we should make it a regular thing...those gremlins don’t stand a chance against me...I’ve got their number, they’re in the bucket with my gremlins tonight...I’m going to bed with a smug smile on my face knowing I’ve encouraged at least one runner, our lovely dellydot out of the door xxx

β€’ in reply toMummycav

Please put the lid firmly on the gremlin bucket! Thank you for boosting me along Mummycav. Xx

Great post as I do think Jan and Feb are the hardest months to get through but support and a little nudge is sometimes all that is needed. I got that little nudge from a lovely message on the quest as well and is was amazing how it was almost like being jolted back into awareness once again πŸ€—. Well done Dolly-dot on your 5k especially under 5k. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

β€’ in reply toKillerblue

I’m so glad you had a helpful nudge too. What a wonderful forum this is. ☺️

Well done!! Must feel awesome to overcome the gremlins. I’ve had a rough January...just too much going on mentally. I’m joining the quest in Feb for sure as it great to be held accountable to myself publically!

β€’ in reply toSparkey5000

The quest last month led to lots of support which I really needed - there’s lots of help and encouragement on here if you just ask. Good luck with your quest Sparkey 😊
