Fanfare please! Even as BJ was preparing his "Alas, another lockdown" speech, my lovely physio from the local hospital was giving me the all clear to start Couch to 5k again! I had a video call with her yesterday morning, and she is happy with my progress. She sent me on my way with strict instructions about further strengthening, and a six-week window to call in if I have any issues, but then I'm discharged. I've just worked out that it's 7 months since I broke my ankle, so I'm really excited , and at the same time, terrified that I'll get Carried Away and do Too Much.
So of course, I was outside on the street yesterday afternoon doing a little walk/jogette thingy as a pre-c25k refresher. Well, my running shoes needed a reminder what they were really for.
Oh, and can anyone recommend a mini indoor trampoline/rebounder? She recommended I get one, but I'm a bit bewildered by the huge range available.
I'll toddle over to c25k forum, but I'll pop in here too. You can't get rid of me, sorry!

Yay!!! 7 months is a long time. I was champing at the bit after 12 weeks getting over my ankle fracture and sprain. I found my wobble board helped strengthen my ankle too.
I've got a wobble cushion, it's veeery wobbly and I'm useless on it. My physio has made it very clear that I must continue with it, so I promised that I would! Maybe a wobble board would be easier to use?
You could try using a normal cushion to start with, its still a more unstable surface than a floor that will challenge your balance a bit and then progress to the wobble cushion Or even standing with your eyes closed maybe?
Cushion sounds a good idea. I cannot do it with my eyes closed, it's a regular exercise in Pilates, and I'm somewhat challenged in the standing up with my eyes closed department. And that's before I broke my ankle 😬🤣 Thanks for the ideas though, I'll try the cushion in the morning 😊
That is amazing news I’m really excited for you I hadn’t realised before what unfortunate initials our prime thingy man has
I had a small rebounder and bought a cheap one from Argos, my friend has one with a handle so they don’t fall off I can ask her where she got it if you like
I never needed one with a handle and gave my original one to my friend when we bought one of those huge trampolines for the garden, pretending it was for the grandchildren 😀I spent many happy hours on that strength and flex is good as I’m sure you know, I do the heel raises every day only about ten but after some months realised there is so much more spring in my steps and when the rest of me is flagging my feet spring me to the end 😀
When my friend replaced the original she got one with a handle because they are getting older and for no other reason
Fantastic news grumps; so pleased that you are fastening on your running shoes again. You have been through such a horrible 7 months; I think that you will remember not to overdo it! The six weeks corresponds to the period required to get the “you are a runner “ banner on C25k.....but no need to push it. 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Such good news GoG, I know how you feel. Proceed with caution as you tolerate the impact in your newly mended joints.C25k is exactly the way to do it, I found listening to the app really useful to keep my pace steady, going off too quickly is counter productive.
Thanks blue, I've got a little wobble cushion, which I'm rubbish on! I had to promise to keep practising on it😁The rebounder is for the jogging action with less impact, I had a go when I went to the physio unit and it's brilliant. But it will also mean I can keep going when the weather is unkind, or the roads are slippery. I'm going to be very wary of dodgy surfaces from now on.
Aha, you might be in for a long wait! 😁I've actually signed up with my local running club to guide me through - and I don't think they have that run in their plan. Oh dear, what a pity, never mind! 😂
