8k and feeling it. I feel fine but I seem to always get a bit stiff after returning from a run, even after giving myself a good stretch, and then just attending to my stats and sneaking onto this forum for 5min, just those 5 min or so are enough to feel stiff when getting up to shower.

But I did 8k!!!! Only 2 more to go to hit the magic 10k!

It was a rainy run, passing dog walkers with Santa Clause hats, discovering new backlane paths with trees decorated with baubles and shoppers giving me the thumbs up!

Such a lovely way to spend a Sat morning!

Happy running everyone!

Intriguing photo. Is that a former railway line in Cheshire?

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to nowster

It is! And is part of my future long circular run route of about 11.5k! So I am really lucky!

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10 in reply to CBDB

You've plotted out a 10k route already too? πŸ€ͺ

We don't have any disused railways round here, but my first 10k route has a canal for the third quarter of it. I'll need to walk it at some point before running it to check out the suitability of the path that comes just before the canal section.

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to nowster

Yes, my final route will also include a canal path. And my plan is to walk the other way around in the next 3 weeks, as my next long run on the magic plan is another 8k, so I’ve got a bit of time. It’s funny though, how we do not dare run some new routes before walking them! It feels the runs are too precious. But are the walks accordingly not? Strange! 🀣🀣

Well done on your 8K CBDB πŸ‘ you’re so near to 10K now. It’s another fantastic milestone on your running journey. Good luck getting there!Sounds like a lovely run too. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thank you! It was, and I’m amazed still how much I want to run in the mornings!

Great going CBDB! I feel your pain with the late stretching- those stats seem more important at the time 😬🀣 Although stretching the distance IS challenging the body so a few aches and pains are excusable πŸ˜πŸ‘ you did it! 8k!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to Littleoyellow

πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ™ Yes, and the stiffness does go away. My thinking is that it’s the body going into recovery mode. πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ½

Well done- great distance πŸ‘πŸ» I’m on 7k at the moment and I’m definitely starting to feel the stiffness creeping in too

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to Bambi2020

Yeah! At this distance we probably have to take stretching and flexibility more seriously. πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ™

Congratulations on your 8k 😊 I have to stop myself going on here till after stretches and a shower or I'm loving having a bath after the longer runs. Hope the stiffness wears off quickly. And it sounds a great run and very festive πŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈπŸŽ…

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to dijep

Yeah! Longer bath sounds great but we only had space for a shower 🚿 ☹️. I never took a bath when we had one, and once I had started to run I now think it might be nice to have one again! πŸ˜‚

I know how you feel I used to think all my bath was for was too collect dust and spiders 🀣But now I'm really enjoying using it after those runs.

Thanks. Yeah I always add 5min walking at the end, but still... I think my muscles are just needing some time to get used to the longer distance. Thanks πŸ™ 😊☺️

Huge well done CBDB! I did 8km yesterday and was a stiff as a board afterwards - I always put it down to age! But fortunately it does wear off!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to Oldgirlruns

Good to know I’m not the only one! I will myself to put it down to the body telling me it’s registered this distance and after a recover period is ready for the next! 🀣🀣

I love my bath after a long run. I try to be disciplined when I arrive home. Definitely stretches! Often with a glass of water and a snack. Then I try to have breakfast before looking at my stats (I often fail and have a quick look!)

Sync watch and long soak in the bath. Oh yes! 😍

If you can stand it the best cure I’ve found for stiffness is to have a cold shower. Or if is just your legs then just hold the shower head onto them. Do this pretty soon after getting back and hold the shower for a good while. It’s πŸ₯Ά but worth it πŸ‘

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to RunBrianRun

Right! Sounds cold but I will try this on my legs for my next 8k. Would be so great if this would work for me! Thank you!!!

RunBrianRun profile image

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to RunBrianRun

Tried this this morning, after a 4K. A shorter run where normally I don’t feel very stiff anyway, but I think this worked as my legs felt better than usual! Thank you!

RunBrianRun profile image

Oh great news. It really helps reduce inflammation and pain and I do this after all long or fast runs now. πŸ‘

Well done on that 8k run πŸ‘ interesting reading everyones comments, about the stiffness afterwards, i've also been doing one longer run, each week, same stiffness, glad it's not just me, i put it down to age, and maybe still pretty new to this running malarky!!! 🀣

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

Yes, I assume once we’re running 20km, then 8km will not give us a bother anymore! 🀣🀣🀣

But seriously, I do find 5kms - which were my weekly long run not so long ago - don’t make me stiff anymore.

Great stuff! πŸ’ͺπŸ¦΅πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ™

What a lovely run CBDB. Its so cold and damp at the moment I think maybe it seizes up the muscles as soon as you stop.

Ant50 profile image

When I get back from a long run, I usually have a long soak in a hot bath, I find that has really helped prevent post run stiffness and aches. Maybe worth a try? Well done on the 8k by the way !

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to Ant50

We don’t have a bath ☹️, rather only a shower 🚿. So that might at the moment not be an option. But will make a note. Thank you! πŸ™πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ½

Well done!

Oh, how I can relate to the achiness! I ache all the time anyway, but any run over 5k exacerbates it temporarily. But I still love it! I figure it's just me getting stronger. At one point 5k did this to me. Now 5k doesn't make me seize up. Maybe one day the same will be true for 10k!
