Week 4 of ju-ju-‘a programme. During the week I did the 5k on Monday and the 4k on Wednesday. 8k today.
I’ve stuck to my same road route and just added half a k to my turning point each time. Last time out I got halfway up a hill from Disley station to the entrance of Lyme Park (scene of my near-death Parkrun). Today I just made it past the entrance before turning.
Deliberately tried to go off slowly today as the 7k was a hell of a struggle having gone off too fast in the first few k. But Strava tells me that’s my best first 2.5k segment ever 🤷♂️
Roadworks Just before the 1k mark (and Just after the 7k mark coming back) meant I needed to do a bit of traffic dodging.
I knew I would go over an hour this run but I expected it would take me longer than it did. Came armed with jelly babies and rewarded myself just after midway with a nice refreshing yellow one.
Threw the whole thing in and tried to chew. Now can’t breathe! Oh my god what have I done? Spluttering away trying to chew and swallow this mass of gloop that has coated the inside of my dry mouth!
Survived but lesson learnt - I had another with 2k to go and gently nibbled bits off it.
On the way back from Lyme Park to Disley I passed a young female runner going uphill. Long, shiny black hair positively eating up the distance at a pace I’ll never reach. Turns out it’s another Strava segment!
Sirens Hill to 5, 6, 7, 8 by Steps. I very nearly “danced” up it like last week but I actually felt ok and kept running normally (whatever that is).
Part way back I felt relaxed and happy. I’m confident I can reach 10k. I might skip repeating 8k next week and go on to 9k.
Whatever run you have next, enjoy it x

You are doing brilliantly Jay, who would have thought that you could run for an hour. Remember how elated you were to achieve 30 minutes on c25k. Remember how embarrassed you were to come across another runner! Bravo.
Phooar! Blimmin heck look at your time Jay. I’m loving your post, c25k ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Warning! Lyme Park betta watch out for Jay next time. 👍🥝
Great to hear it went so well, Jay! I was a bit worried that we’d not heard from you since the tough 7k, but it sounds like you are just sailing through things on the plan now! 😃🏃♂️❤️
Nice one Jay! You’re smashing this plan! I miscalculated my route today. Meant to run 7km but found myself a little under 1k from Home as miss Runkeeper told me I’d done the 7k. So I kept running towards home and then a little bit past it to hit the 8k. Like you I felt reasonably ok and thought for the first time that 10k is probably going to be doable. Was tempted to carry on but the words of OldFloss were ringing in my ears ‘take it easy. Stick to the plan. Don’t risk an injury.’ So I stuck to the plan (ish) good luck for the 9k!
“I am confident I can reach 10k”. I’m so happy to read that! For a longer time you wrote about a lack of confidence. Now we have Slimmer, More Confident Jay! Good for you, I think you can do the 9k too. Good luck!
Bravo!! You’ll be doing the 10 soon, no worries! I could open my family debate about feet vs head first when eating ( my DD says “murdering” 😂) jelly babies to a wider audience, but I think whatever gets you round is ok! Looking forward to the graduation post.
Wow- that pace is something I can only dream of- what a fantastic achievement even with jelly baby disasters. 😂👏.
Not sure how I got onto this site- think I pressed something by mistake and I now feel like I did at the beginning of C25K - totally daunted, but love the fact that you seem to be smashing this too.
IKR? Couldn’t really imagine making 5k half way through Couch. Very definitely enjoyed it - somehow everything clicked and it just worked. Roll on 9...
