Week 4 of ju-ju-‘a programme. During the week I did the 5k on Monday and the 4k on Wednesday. 8k today.
I’ve stuck to my same road route and just added half a k to my turning point each time. Last time out I got halfway up a hill from Disley station to the entrance of Lyme Park (scene of my near-death Parkrun). Today I just made it past the entrance before turning.
Deliberately tried to go off slowly today as the 7k was a hell of a struggle having gone off too fast in the first few k. But Strava tells me that’s my best first 2.5k segment ever 🤷♂️
Roadworks Just before the 1k mark (and Just after the 7k mark coming back) meant I needed to do a bit of traffic dodging.
I knew I would go over an hour this run but I expected it would take me longer than it did. Came armed with jelly babies and rewarded myself just after midway with a nice refreshing yellow one.
Threw the whole thing in and tried to chew. Now can’t breathe! Oh my god what have I done? Spluttering away trying to chew and swallow this mass of gloop that has coated the inside of my dry mouth!
Survived but lesson learnt - I had another with 2k to go and gently nibbled bits off it.
On the way back from Lyme Park to Disley I passed a young female runner going uphill. Long, shiny black hair positively eating up the distance at a pace I’ll never reach. Turns out it’s another Strava segment!
Sirens Hill to 5, 6, 7, 8 by Steps. I very nearly “danced” up it like last week but I actually felt ok and kept running normally (whatever that is).
Part way back I felt relaxed and happy. I’m confident I can reach 10k. I might skip repeating 8k next week and go on to 9k.
Whatever run you have next, enjoy it x
You are doing brilliantly Jay, who would have thought that you could run for an hour. Remember how elated you were to achieve 30 minutes on c25k. Remember how embarrassed you were to come across another runner! Bravo.
🏃♂️👏
