8k and feeling it. I feel fine but I seem to always get a bit stiff after returning from a run, even after giving myself a good stretch, and then just attending to my stats and sneaking onto this forum for 5min, just those 5 min or so are enough to feel stiff when getting up to shower.
But I did 8k!!!! Only 2 more to go to hit the magic 10k!
It was a rainy run, passing dog walkers with Santa Clause hats, discovering new backlane paths with trees decorated with baubles and shoppers giving me the thumbs up!
Such a lovely way to spend a Sat morning!
Happy running everyone!

We don't have any disused railways round here, but my first 10k route has a canal for the third quarter of it. I'll need to walk it at some point before running it to check out the suitability of the path that comes just before the canal section.
Yes, my final route will also include a canal path. And my plan is to walk the other way around in the next 3 weeks, as my next long run on the magic plan is another 8k, so Iโve got a bit of time. Itโs funny though, how we do not dare run some new routes before walking them! It feels the runs are too precious. But are the walks accordingly not? Strange! ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Well done on your 8K CBDB ๐ youโre so near to 10K now. Itโs another fantastic milestone on your running journey. Good luck getting there!Sounds like a lovely run too. ๐๐
Great going CBDB! I feel your pain with the late stretching- those stats seem more important at the time ๐ฌ๐คฃ Although stretching the distance IS challenging the body so a few aches and pains are excusable ๐๐ you did it! 8k!
I'll remember that next time I'm aching after extending my distance ๐๐๐โโ๏ธkeep on keeping on CBDB ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Woohoo 8k!๐๐ป๐ Very well done.I stiffen exactly as you describe...and blame my age!! ๐๐ On better organised days I stretch while looking at stats!!
Congratulations on your 8k ๐ I have to stop myself going on here till after stretches and a shower or I'm loving having a bath after the longer runs. Hope the stiffness wears off quickly. And it sounds a great run and very festive ๐โ๏ธ๐
Yeah! Longer bath sounds great but we only had space for a shower ๐ฟ โน๏ธ. I never took a bath when we had one, and once I had started to run I now think it might be nice to have one again! ๐
Thanks. Yeah I always add 5min walking at the end, but still... I think my muscles are just needing some time to get used to the longer distance. Thanks ๐ ๐โบ๏ธ
Good to know Iโm not the only one! I will myself to put it down to the body telling me itโs registered this distance and after a recover period is ready for the next! ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Brilliant, well done ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐๐
I love my bath after a long run. I try to be disciplined when I arrive home. Definitely stretches! Often with a glass of water and a snack. Then I try to have breakfast before looking at my stats (I often fail and have a quick look!)
Sync watch and long soak in the bath. Oh yes! ๐
Getting into a hot bubbly bath after a long run is just ..... heaven !
Fantastic CBDB. Lovely to see you are running through my native Cheshire countryside๐. Epsom salts in the bath work wonders for soaking tired muscles. ๐ค
If you can stand it the best cure Iโve found for stiffness is to have a cold shower. Or if is just your legs then just hold the shower head onto them. Do this pretty soon after getting back and hold the shower for a good while. Itโs ๐ฅถ but worth it ๐
Tried this this morning, after a 4K. A shorter run where normally I donโt feel very stiff anyway, but I think this worked as my legs felt better than usual! Thank you!
Well done on that 8k run ๐ interesting reading everyones comments, about the stiffness afterwards, i've also been doing one longer run, each week, same stiffness, glad it's not just me, i put it down to age, and maybe still pretty new to this running malarky!!! ๐คฃ
When I get back from a long run, I usually have a long soak in a hot bath, I find that has really helped prevent post run stiffness and aches. Maybe worth a try? Well done on the 8k by the way !
We donโt have a bath โน๏ธ, rather only a shower ๐ฟ. So that might at the moment not be an option. But will make a note. Thank you! ๐๐๐๐ฝ
Oh, how I can relate to the achiness! I ache all the time anyway, but any run over 5k exacerbates it temporarily. But I still love it! I figure it's just me getting stronger. At one point 5k did this to me. Now 5k doesn't make me seize up. Maybe one day the same will be true for 10k!
Well done CBDB, that's absolutely brilliant. 10K is so close for you now, you'll be running it before you know it. And think of all the new places this will open up for you, isn't it exciting.
