What a glorious morning, sunny hot 8k run this morning following the nike run app,in the warm weather starting to get very sweaty especially my forehead that's getting spotty and itchy from sweat now what's the best way to approach this Creams head bands hat love some advice if possible please

Congratulations to you Tessie66 on running a 8K on a lovely sunny morning, 8K is one of my favourite distances as my average time is around one hour, my quickest is 55 minutes, my slowest, 65 minutes but I am happiest when it's sub 60 minutes.

🙌Well done it’s a great distance! Keeping cool on a run is such an individual thing as our bodies are all different and some of us tolerate heat more. As sunscreen is a number one we definitely dont want to be rubbing that into our eyes as we mop our brows 🤣 Personally a peaked hat is all I need but many runners use headbands with or without the cap. I have seen some using their water bottles to cool off. A large hanky to mop the brow can be handy too. Make sure your sunscreen is one specifically for the face to avoid those irritations. The hotter the day the more we need to hydrate before & after the run. The best solution is to run early morning or in the cool of the evening but not always possible! 🏃♂️
I agree with Annieapple ; I don’t put any creams on my forehead…I learned the hard way that it ends up in my eyes! I wear peaked caps; the inbuilt head bands seem to do the trick most of the time. A headband wouldn’t work with my lack of hair, but it may be fine for you…never tried one for reason explained!🙂
I don't have a lot of hair and wear a cap might get a band as well 🤔
Worth a try….I do have a head band, but seem to manage with out it under my cap; can make me feel a bit hotter 🤷♂️
Willing to try anything really first summer running at longer distances I definitely prefer to run in the winter
Great run! When it’s hot, I try and run early enough in the morning not to need sun cream. I hate wearing a hat and it’s good motivation to get up, or wait until dusk. If I was running in daytime, suncream is a necessary evil when you’re as pale as I am and burn easily. It’s taken a bit of trial and error to find one which works for me. The joys of sunny running! Who’d have thought we’d be wanting the rain back…
Living in West Yorkshire we probably see more rain than most and I'm trying to get used to running longer distances in hotter weather not enjoying it so far
I did my couch to 5k in January/February so I don’t think I ran on a sunny day for months! It took a lot of getting used to! You’ll find what works for you!
I ran 10 miles today, and the weather was quite warm. I took water on my run, and stopped once on top of the worst hill to drink. I felt really dehydrated when I got home, so reached for the electrolytes! I think above 10k is definitely “take a drink” territory in hot weather, but people develop their own routines. I was discussing electrolytes with a medic friend who lives in Brisbane ….they know about heat! He thinks, on balance, it is better to top up electrolytes before/ during the run. I opted for after the run because my system copes better with water “in run” and electrolyte later. Good habit to develop now things are warming up.
I know the next few runs on the nike app are starting to step up,I'm OK with 10k but then after that I'm in new territory distances wise so if I'm honest I'm starting to get a bit apprehensive what I should be doing regarding electrolytes and also if I should be running longer distances on my own
New long runs are always at easy pace on Nike app ….so keeping it slow is the secret; ….just as lots of us did building up to 10k. I used to do a recovery run and a speed run for my other two runs per week on offer. I have never managed more than three runs per week.
I used a zero dissolvable tablet today ….and was careful to let all of the fizz dissipate before I drank any..otherwise I suffer from hyper-inflation! Lots of people use them. I get mine from the local running shop but you can order on line. Not a big deal at all.
As for running on your own; I guess that is a “how you feel about it” thing. I run trails on my own at age 72 and it has never occurred to me to worry about it. I have my mobile phone with me. I have only needed it once, when our Old English Sheepdog accidentally ran into my leg and I couldn’t walk. Mrs BC answered my sos!! There may be running clubs around if you want to look at running with others?

Me too! I started 6 years ago, aged 66, and expected to fail at every hurdle. I just kept pushing a bit further and miraculously I am still running! I am as surprised as anyone 🙂
🙂 I gave up trying for a sub 60 minute 10k. I found the other targets easier. Focussing on distance rather than pace seemed sensible given my age.

Wonderfully Cool and a HUGE brim which gives you the advantage if the rain starts too ! Loads of colours... not cheap but so worth it.

Hi, I use just a peak, which has an absorbent band, it seems to work for me and I sweat a lot. I go out around 6.30/6.45am, I find that time cool enough. I have run later in the day with a running group and the peak has been enough. Which nike run are you doing? I am currently trying to increase my distance and stamina after having time off through injury. (on and off for two years) I managed 10 miles for my 75th (three years ago) and would like to do a HM but struggling at the moment to get back to where I was, but at least I am managing to get out there . Keep up the good work🤗
