I was a life long ‘non runner’ card carrier, but secretly used to run in my dreams.
Hoping it might help tackle anxiety issues I downloaded the C25k app in February. After a bit of stop start, I graduated at the end of Summer. With my furlough period ending and school starting again in September I worried I would not have the ‘me time’ available to keep up with the running. As the mornings got darker, knee injury and the work/life juggle kicked in again my fears were being realised - I was needed at home before school, work was too busy to have lunch time run and then when the anxiety kicked back in I could feel myself kind of giving up. But then I remembered how good you feel after a run, and I dragged my slow ass out again.
I’ve been able to add 1k a week on my week’s longest run. Last week I managed 8k and I practically floated home I was so happy. Today, (my last childfree day until Jan 6th) I sooo hoped I could crack my goal...I got to 9k and knew I could do it, so pushed on for the 10k. I was tired, but I’d actively tried to slow slow slow down, and I did it!! In March I struggled to run for 90secs. Today I ran for 1hr 19mins (slow I know! 🤷♀️). When I got home I promptly snot cried on my husband because I was so proud of myself! Xx

That was a phenomenal 10k, especially with everything else going on in your life. An amazing time too, don’t knock it. I’ve been running 10ks regularly for over a year now and that’s close to my benchmark time for a happy run. Have a great weekend and I hope you can fit in more runs even with your children around, they are so good for a healthy mental state. Happy running 🤗
Oh my goodness, I can understand why you cried! Running distances like this is a real achievement and you followed your instinct and pushed on. It's almost like a state of shock sets in when you realise what you've just achieved isn't it!You deserve a medal for making space for running in your life and that shows real grit.
Keep it up, those 10k runs are my favourite distance and it's time to fully be 'you' which is important at the moment for everyone.
Brilliant run and fantastic achievement- you’ve cracked that goal and it will definitely help with confidence to forge on and add a bit more on when you are ready, slowing down to achieve more is definitely the right way to run. Love the emotion shows just how important it was for you.
Congratulations, I cried with you reading this, it’s an outstanding achievement, it’s amazing what we can do isn’t it, and we all remember week one 🥵 You go girl! 🏆🎉
Woohoo! Huge well done AAON77 - that’s a massive achievement and you have every right to be emotional at the end of it! That’s a good time too - it takes me 1hr 30+ minutes to do 10k which is seriously slow but as long as you did it that’s all that matters! Congratulations!
Oh that's amazing, well done! And what a post! Incredible. And no that's not slow! I do hope you find me time over the next few weeks, even if for a 15/20 min run. Every run is a good run!🎉😄
Congratulations! It's messages like this that help inspire me to keep going. I completed C25K a couple of weeks ago, and this week did my first actual 5k, so I'm still only dreaming about 10k.
Well done. Its such an achievement, particularly when you're juggling your life round your running and the weather is dark and dank. The speeds OK too. Glad your husband was nice and supportive too - useful to have someone's shoulder to make soggy.😊
Thank you to everyone for such supportive comments. I’m not really a ‘post about myself’ kind of person - so it’s been such a lovely surprise to read so many really lovely and encouraging well wishes. Thanks everyone 😊
