I hope I don't live to regret this as I had set out to do a gentle 5k with David Bowie playing on Spotify but ended up reaching 10k (my longest run prior to this was just over 8k)!!
Today was not about pace, it was about building my endurance. But I even surprised myself with today's efforts, 10K in 1:11:16!!!
I focused on landing heel first and resisted any urges to speed up for known Strava segments. I'm not even sure how it happened but as I approached 9.5km I had enough in the tank to speed up! When my Garmin buzzed to tell me I'd hit 10k it couldn't believe it and so I spent most of my c/down walk double checking just to make sure!
I guess my question is what next? I'm not in any hurry to go beyond 10k so do I just try to do a mix of 10, 5 and 3k runs per week and try mixing it up with speed intervals etc?
I've recently started to include a few more climbs into my runs so I'm guessing this is a good thing to keep up too? In today's run I even went up a climb I would NEVER have attempted a few months back so that was another major win for me today π
Happy running folks!

You could do everything you just said there. Try interval training. nice slower gentle 10K's mixed in and improve your 5K finish times. That will then also translate over to 10K as your pace improves. You could aim to go sub 1 hour for 10K over a period of a few months with consistent training. There is loads that you can try. Good luck and very well done again.
Congratulations TallTeal2020 on your first 10k , thats an amazing achievement.
So what next? I would say exactly as you've said above . That sounds like a great plan and stick with some hill runs also. Well done you ππππ₯³π₯³π₯³
Congratulations and welcome to the accidental 10k club πβοΈ. I ran mine on my birthday last week. I was on my 9k run and I had the choice of a 5 min cool down walk in the torrential rain whilst I waited for my husband and the car (by which time I would have been frozen), or an extra 1k to keep warm. The extra 1k won! Accidental 10ks are great! Well done ππΌ
