First ever 10k - can't believe it!

At the start of 2018 I set myself the challenge of completing the C25K program. It took me until September to actually get my arse into gear and start it, graduating at start of Nov. Since then I've been consolidating and trying to complete one longer run each week the longest to date being 8.4k.

I set out today, post Christmas blow out, with the intention of running about 6k but felt so good I just went for it, and actually did it! I am over the moon, I never imagined that at the age of 55 I would be able to achieve this, proud doesn't begin to describe how I feel right now.

If I can do this, anyone can. Thanks to everyone in this forum for the support.

Congratulations on completing C25K and especially running that 10K in 1.13.28, yes it's amazing what you can do if you really put your mind to it.

Congratulations!!! I completely love it when you go out intending to do a shorter distance, and end up doing, say, 10k! That's exactly how I completed Bridge to 10k myself. And flip, that's a decent pace too.

Now, while you sign up on the Marathon Running and Race Support forum, have a well earned cuppa :D

Thanks, feeling pretty chuffed at the moment. Think something slightly stronger than a cup of tea might be in order, it is Christmas after all!

You're actually doing it, aren't you. You're rehydrating with gin :P

Congratulations Sparkest. It’s brilliant to do 10k, and a great time too, so well done. Now about that 10% rule .........

🙈 wasn't aware of this 10% rule malarkey. I've sort of stuck to a plan. 3 runs a week, one of 30 mins, one of 20 mins and a third which I've been increasing by about 1k at a time. Planning on taking it a bit easier for the next month or so now

Well done. I did my first 10 on Christmas eve, similar circumstances, it just felt right to keep on running.

My time however was considerably more than yours. Congratulations.

Well done you, feels good doesn't it! I'm convinced it's all the extra carbs I ate over Christmas that helped me 🏃‍♀️😂😂

Excellent work Sparkest! 😸👏👏👏🏃

Welcome to the club!

I too am a November 2018 C25k graduate. I'm sure I remember you posting about your graduation run...? Anyways its good to see a name I recognise and wish you good luck with your next challenge.

So what next?

15k? 10 miles?

🎅 Xmas Katnap 🎅

Thanks Katnap, yes I know what you mean, I too like to see names I recognise from my C25K journey. Not sure what my next challenge is going to be. Sometimes think I might want to do a half marathon by end of 2019 but that seems so far! Then I remember that 4 months ago I struggled to run for 60 seconds 🙈 What about you?

Baby steps. Just increase total continuous running time and benchmark fitness by reducing 5k and 10k times.

My current easy jog pace is about 7:10/km.

Wow I missed that one. Well done you. A great achievement. Working that way slowly myself

Thanks, think it was a bit of a fluke to be honest. Clearly assisted by all the carbs I ate over Christmas, or the sprouts! 😂😂 Struggling to get anywhere near 10k since, longest run each week seems to be 6-7k. Good to see that you're still running, we've missed you 😭😭

Oh thank you. You say the nicest things. I miss coming on but nothing much to say most of the time. Just doing 3 runs a week. Some 4k some 5k and some 6k but first 7k tonight so well pleased. A bit stiff now. Gonna suffer tomorrow lol
