With great support from this forum I have been working toward a 10k- I finished c25k at the end of last year and have been doing 2 runs a week and trying to build up speed and distance.
I did 9k in April and the following day I was playing with my daughter and twinged my knee.
The excellent advice here was to ease up and give myself some time to heal, which I did but I sort of lost some momentum, fell out of my twice a week routine and had some slow 5ksβ¦
Iβd seen the HU virtual 10k a few weeks ago and debated joining but after feeling like I was off my game I didnβt as I didnβt want to feel like Iβd failed. It totally went out of my mind and when I decided to go for a run this morning I only aimed for a 5k to keep ticking over.
On a random impulse I chose a whole new route and had an hour left of an audio book- I never listen to books, I have to run to music.
For whatever reason, everything felt good. The route kept me interested, the book was distracting enough and when I got to 4k I knew Iβd do more and wondered if I could make it 10k.
In the end I did it. I still canβt believe it. 1hr 8mins which Iβm really really happy with.
My longest run ever! π
It was only when I logged in here to thank everyone for their advice that I realised the HU 10k was this morning, at 9:30 - bizarrely the same time I left the house!
Hoping I can sneak in as a retrospective entry π€π½
Hopefully my 10k badge, 60 mins badge will give me the boost to keep going! π
