I think this is the first time I’ve ever posted in the Bridge to 10K group despite lurking in here for a long time! I completed C25K about 3 years ago and I’ve not really strayed from my comfortable 5K. I’ve done the occasional 8K but never pushed it that bit extra despite wanting to.
This year I really wanted to be more consistent with my running as I’ve never really stopped running but there have definitely been occasions where I’ve not been running as regularly as I’d have liked.
The past couple of months I’ve run at least every other day and my 5K runs have gotten stronger and stronger. And I’m just loving being out! So yesterday I decided I wanted to try and run for longer. I figured I’d go out, run at a pace slower than usual and aim for endurance rather than speed and see how far I could comfortably get.
I was absolutely blown away when I hit 10K! I was also expecting to feel like dying at the end of my first 10K but I didn’t! I actually had the energy to speed up to closer to my usual average pace for the last couple of kilometres. The weather was absolutely brutal and it was raining so much that I could hardly see as I approached the end, but I was so happy that I almost forgot how wet and cold it was as I was walking home afterwards.
I was sure to have a really extra good stretch when I got in and my legs seem to feel okay today which is good! I’m honestly so excited now! Knowing I have the ability to run further is just so awesome. I think I’m going to try and do one longer run every week alongside my usual 5Ks. I’m looking forward to seeing how my overall running and fitness improves with the addition of longer runs as I’m sure I’ll see a difference!
Anyway! That’s all! I ran 10K and I’m really pleased ☺️ Happy running everybody! 🏃♀️

🍏🙌👏🥳Congratulations that’s an amazing achievement and all in the rain too!!! Well done and the fact that you were able to achieve it means your fitness has already improved! The best thing is that you are enjoying your runs!! Well the coaches on Nike Run Club encourage one long run a week in their training plans.. As AlMorr Says Go celebrate!!! 🥳
Very well done to you, and in such harsh conditions too. Good to see you here as well!
As AlMorr suggest, go and get that well deserved badge!
Putting a longer run in ,as well as the short and 5K ish ones is so useful The longer, relaxed , see where you get to, runs, build everything up; stamina strength, distance and even speed.
I try, when I am back on track, to run a shortish... a medium and then a Sunday Run day Funday one. Sunday is the long run day !
Looking forward to seeing you here and watching how you move on
Thank you so much! I’ve requested my badge ☺️ I’m really looking forward to seeing how the additional longer runs positively affect my shorter runs 😊 I love Sunday Run Day Funday! I might have to use that! 😂 thanks again! 😊
That's such a big achievement and running consistency has got you there. Excellent advice from Oldfloss Mixing up runs going forward is useful and it keeps things fresh. The longer, steadier run is absolutely key. Huge well done 👏
Congratulations on your first 10k, it's such a great achievement! You built up a good base with the 5ks over time and the rest is really building up more endurance at a nice slow steady pace. I think 10k is one of my favourite runs.
Thank you so much! that’s awesome I’m hoping I’ll be able to say the same soon! It was really nice to just enjoy running at a nice steady pace. Really looking forward to doing more and continuing to build my endurance 😊
