Has anyone run as a guide for a visually impaired person?

As title really. My missus is severely sight impaired (modern way of saying blind as a bat!) although you’d never know it if you met her.

She’s been wanting to get into running since I started on C25K back in May.

Was wondering if it was feasible to do it myself and what training you need. Guess my next call will be to the RNIB!

No experience at all but sounds like a brilliant challenge! I really hope you can find the advice to help you both.

Hi Reggit ...I bet you could do the programme alongside her...she knows you and will have so much trust in you...it would be a really lovely thing for you to do together...no experience myself though

Reggit , no direct experience of this sorry.

However I just googled "running with visually impaired people" and there's lots of info out there, including britishblindsport.org.uk/me... and attendly.com/guide-running-...

I imagine, though, that the best idea would be to discuss it with your wife! While I really don't mean to sound flippant or patronising, she's best positioned to know how her sight loss affects her everyday life, and how she likes to be guided (or not), so maybe check out the options and talk them through with her. :)

Thanks, I’ve had a quick look at work and found similar sites.

I’ve already had a chat with her and she wants a trained guide, so have been wondering about doing it as there’s no one near us. That would then set us up for another hurdle of who’s looking after the kids....

Not thought this one out very well have I? 😂

Well, when you put it like that... 😂

Really hope you can get something sorted.

I’ve run alongside a blind chap and his helper runner. The route was littered by speed humps, and she just called out to him to warn him. They were awesome! They linked themselves together with a twin-handled rubber dog pull 😃. It was my first marathon but he told me it was his 300th plus 🙂

It must take lots of practice to run in co-ordinated fashion as they did They were fast too 😃

I would think RNIB would be a good starting point Good luck 👍🙂
