Wow what a difference running with others makes ! I could tell I was running harder than usual - but wasn’t actively trying to achieve a personal best, just found myself having to go faster to overtake people who were in my way ! (Another new phenomenon !). Some people I even overtook twice 🤣🤣.
My official park run time is 35:23 but I turned my Garmin on when I actually crossed the start line (I was close to the back of 218 runners !) and Garmin gives me 33:35 for the 5k - about 40 seconds faster than previous PB. Woo hoo !
Ok so I came 201st out of 218 runners (82nd of 93 female runners) - so pretty close to the back - BUT apparently I was 4th in my age group ?!?!! I was really pleased about that 😇 but when I worked out how to filter the results by age category I could see that I was 4th out of 5 !! 🤪
Oh well. I’m happy. Not sure if I’ll make a habit out of it - but maybe it’s the beginning of a new goal oriented challenge….. haven’t worked out what yet, but let’s see.

Fantastic. Congratulations. I absolutely love parkrun, it is the most amazing community event. If you go to the same one every Saturday you will meet the nicest people whom will soon be friends. I have met so many wonderful people through parkrun. Also the same visiting other parkruns, everyone is lovely. Unfortunately it is not back yet in Ireland. But I think they are working on it, Junior parkrun returns in Ireland tomorrow. So I am just a little jealous of all you lucky people who can take part in a parkrun. I'll be at the back of the pack too when it returns, but that's where the nicest people hang out. 😀
That must be a really fast course or a fast group of runners. If you'd done an official time of 35'23" at the one I did this morning, you'd have been placed about 60 out of 97.
There have been many parkruns celebrating their 500th run today. That might have attracted a few more "elite" runners who wouldn't normally attend those courses.
Awe - the nicest people hang out at the back - I Like that. 😀 There were quite a few first timers as well as me - so yes, what a great event ! I already feel competitive towards a couple of people who overtook me in the last 100 metres !! (though I can see they were much younger than me !!).
That 'being overtaken at the last bit' happened to me too. I passed a young girl who was walking, then just as I neared the finish she ran past me, all youthful arms and legs flying. Probably the sight of my old carcase shuffling ahead of her gave her the impetus she needed to find that burst of energy!
That’s a positive way of looking at it Thankyou !! I have given someone the opportunity to boast about how they overtook at the last minute that old person who overtook them earlier on in the course !!! I can feel good about helping someone else feel good ! 😇
Parkrun is definitely something I aspire to but having just looked at the list of finishers st my local one I feel it’s still out of my league .. most peeps were averaging around 35 minutes and the winner (?) did it in 16 minutes 😮 but it’s a goal .. my goal is to get out 3 x a week this month and am on track so that’s a plus
Don’t look at the average finish time Joggingonthewildside, look at the time of the last person on the results page . You’ll find that it’s not out of your league at all. Our tail walkers come in around the hour.
