I’ve been loitering on here for a while having completed C25K (twice due to a break of 6 weeks as I had knee pains on consolidation runs). You guys on HU are amazing - such encouragement and motivation - nobody could fail to succeed with their targets. 💜
So, I’m now slowly (yes literally) trying to increase distance in the hope that speed will follow for my 5k time & “kind of” following Ju Jus plan but repeating weeks as I simply haven’t had confidence in myself to just move on each week.
So, last night I prepared my running gear with full intentions of an early run to avoid the worst of the heat of the day. I woke at 1am to thunder....or was it the husbands snoring? Either way, I didn’t get back to sleep until gone 4am and then had a weird dream about running with a group so early we were able to watch the sunrise!
So, upshot being I didn’t rise until 8, felt like death & it was already 23degrees. All the excuses I needed to not go....but something pushed me out of that door and I ran my longest run to date of 8km.
It was slow and it was hot but I was so pleased I’d finished it.
For all those with “gremlins” saying you can’t do it, just think of how you would feel if you gave up. I know I’d be so disappointed in myself and that alone motivates me to get out there.
So, sorry for the long post. I wanted to say thank you to everyone on here - I read this every day and it gives me a great boost.

Good for you Scampie! You’re right, you had many excuses at the ready not to run today, but you swept them aside and went out anyway! Fantastic attitude! 👏👏👏
No doubt in my mind that you’ll make it to 10k soon. You’re so so close. How exciting! You must promise to tell us all about it when it happens, and we’ll throw you a famous HU virtual party! 🎉 🥳 🎈 🥂
Well done, Scampie. Like you I didn't sleep much last might but ran my first 8K this morning anyway. Hope you are feeling good about it. You’re nearer to 10K than to 5K now...
That’s amazing Stephen - well done us!!! I love your last comment too - hadn’t thought about that! 😃 good luck with your onward journey, I’m sure you’ll smash it.
Thanks. Hope you will keep at it too. This forum is brilliant for inspiration, as you say. I have found that posting and reading the posts here really encourages me. And the people are just so nice that it takes away any pressure.
Oh well done you! I went out at 8 too on my first run after C25K graduation. I stopped running after 20 minutes, really letting myself down as I've always run to the end until today.....☹️
Oh please don’t get disheartened Footleg, it was ridiculously hot out there so that was bound to have an effect. At least you got out there and ran for 20 mins!
I certainly do as life sometimes gets in the way of plans! Take a few days, let the heat subside and you’ll feel more positive. Your fitness won’t suffer after a few days or even a week. Good luck!
