Wet feet, a ford and first 10k

I have managed my first 10k!

I try to plan routes which avoid busy roads without pavements, mud, and too many Welsh hills. I never seem able to avoid all 3. I should have been a bit cautious as today's planned route did have a ford marked! I put on my (cycling) waterproof socks and set off hopefully.

I suppose that it is obvious when you think about it that fords are in valleys and valleys can be steep. It proved too steep to run down very fast on a slippery wet track and after I had gingerly picked my way across the ford with water flowing over my running shoes, it was too steep (for me) to run up the other side. I walked for a bit. Fortunately, the route worked well for the rest of the run.

My shoes are now stuffed with newspaper and I hope they will be dry for my final run of the week.

I managed my first 10k. in fact 10.22k in 1 hour and 27 minutes which also involved 188 m of Welsh elevation gain! I was pleased.

That’s fab and brave to go through the ford. Welsh wales and hills is better than the flat lands for views 🤗

ty. It felt foolhardy rather than brave at the time! Having stopped for the ford at least I took a photo, Usually I don't stop for photos as I worry about ever starting again.
