Barry Island 10k. My training was cut a bit short as my sister and I wanted to run this together as it is about half way between where we each live, and it is on the day that would have been my mum’s birthday, had she still been with us. I had managed to run a full 10k once two weeks before the race, and was a little wary of there being a cut-off time (2hours).
The atmosphere was amazing, people all the way round the route cheering us on. There were some beautiful views and it was surprisingly hilly, but I just went out there with the knowledge that as my first 10k race it was going to be a PB! At the 7km mark, I worked out that it was possible I could beat the time I had previously done 10k at home (super flat!) as long as I kept up the same sort of pace. The last two km were very frustrating as we seemed to get close to the finish and then get diverted with more uphills!! But finally we were on the finishing downhill stretch.
My chip time was 1:25:06 which I was really happy with, and of course now I have a lovely new t-shirt and another medal to add to the collection.
