I did my first 10k run on Sunday! I wrote about it on another thread, but was encouraged to make a new one to share.
I ran on the Monsal Trail in the Peak District, where I was staying for my union conference. It was perfect timing to have reached the 10k run that weekend. I’d been a bit concerned about running a trail alone, quite early in the morning. I needn’t have been - there were lots of other runners, walkers and cyclists on the trail already. As it’s a decommissioned railway line, the route was actually flatter than the usual ones I run in South East London!
The first 5k felt like a bit of a slog, despite the beauty of the route. But I really picked up a second wind when I turned round to run back. I felt really in control and relaxed the whole way back, and ended up with a much faster time than I’d expected (1.09).
I’ve run 3 times a week since early January, and I’m taking this week off. I’m exhausted from having taken too little annual leave this year, and I’ve had a niggle in my thigh for the last few weeks. It feels weird not to be running, and I’m struggling to feel ok with it. What if the niggle doesn’t get better? What if I never get back into running?!
But I’m still proud of myself for Sunday. I was also elected Women’s Officer of my union that weekend, so lots of stuff to be happy about.
Thanks for the encouragement!
