It was all going so well - boot and crutches thrown aside, got the ok to go for little walks, then I slipped on a stair, and my poor old injured foot took my full weight to stop me falling. I took it easy for a few days, but it was too sore to do some of my physio exercises and I was limping, so I called the physio for advice.
Her advice was to go to urgent care just in case π±
So off I went, and after a very short wait I was having my foot x-rayed. Nothing broken or chipped, but another sprain. The doctor advised to go back to the early recovery plan. Ibuprofen for the swelling, the gentler mobility exercises, and the famous walking boot to help me walk without the limp. Typically, it is feeling much better today anyway, but I strapped on the boot to do my gardening and it was a big help.
I also learnt that the anti inflammatory effect of ibuprofen only kicks in after a week of taking it, so all in all I'm really glad I went. I learnt a lot, and that was my first face to face consultation since I was signed off from the fracture clinic. Onwards and upwards!

Oh my goodness yes, Maddee, I've removed rugs, rearranged furniture, noticed that I really could do with a front step and a better path in the back garden - we really need new carpet everywhere, but we've got some messy work to do first so we've been holding off. It makes you feel so vulnerable doesn't it!
Husband keeps leaving the bathmat on the floor in our tiny bathroom. It freaks me out every time as I use a zimmer upstairs and the wheels get stuck π€¦ββοΈ
Oh no! Iβm so sorry to hear that GOG - you must be wondering what next! Going to the emergency room was definitely the right move - I hope you start to feel better soon!
When the doctor told me, I sat there thinking, why has nobody told me this before?! I normally take the tablets until it stops hurting, then I stop. Then start again! Mind you, I haven't actually seen my physio in person yet.
Now would be a good time to plant some seed - apparently Autumn sown ones are more robust, ( assuming that you have a greenhouse or conservatory to overwinter them in).. - Iβm about to try it for the first time - thanks to retirement. π
Oh bless you! How horribly unfortunate. Try to be positive- it's not the same injury, not the same recovery time and is already responding well. A setback yes, but hopefully a small one. Sympathy and hugs. You will get there.
Thank you Linda, I've just come in from an entire afternoon pootling around the garden with the Boot on. I feel much more positive, because it feels a lot better already, and the boot lets me walk without a limp (still a bit of the Long John Silvers about it though!)
That's good to hear. Recovery is a very bumpy journey at the best of times, but when things get tough just remember there's likely an 'up' just around the corner π
Thank you Jo, that's the thing, just watching that recovery date move back again. But that pesky boot is definitely helping, so I'm a bit more optimistic today. You'll know all about the ups and downs of recovery, I guess!
I hope you heal quickly. Iβm on permanent anti-inflams and their effect carried on building up for months. Weird how they work. Glad youβre able to get out and do some gardening in your boot. Get better soon, and no more topples or slips please x
I promise I'll try to stay on my feet! I know you have to work hard for your fitness, it can't be fun having to take meds all the time. I'm just so surprised that this is the first time anyone has explained to me how they work - I suppose covid has something to do with it, but I broke my ankle in June and it's been swollen ever since. It would have been useful information π Ah well, I know now!
So sorry to hear this grumpyoldgirl . The road to recovery is never straightforward. But it sounds like you had a very worthwhile discussion at your appointment. Wishing you all the very best.
