It's been 16 days since my last run, sounds like a confession.
I have been trying to do all the right things since then. Strengthening exercises and stretches every day, and this last 4 or 5 days no pain or discomfort walking downstairs. I had a telephone consultation with a sports physio on Saturday, who did say it's impossible to properly and fully diagnose without seeing someone. She is in Ireland, and I'm in the U.K. so obviously a proper appointment is not possible right now. Based on the information we exchanged, she said that I could give it a go today and go on a short and slow run.
So this morning after a great warm up, I set off feeling good. Unfortunately this was very short lived, within about 100 metres I felt quite a sharp pain in my knee so I stopped immediately. I walked for a minute or two, and set off again running slowly but stopped again as the pain came back within a few steps.
Of course that was it for me for today, I walked home. Even though I think I have an IT band issue, there's no certainty that this is the case as there's so many other things that could be causing this pain (as mentioned too by the sports physio on the phone the other day).
Bearing all this in mind I need to get a proper diagnosis, so will need an appointment with a sports physio albeit with social distancing.
I'm missing running terribly, but I realise I have got to be patient if I'm in it for the long haul.
Happy running all.

So sorry to hear about your ongoing pain. Very difficult to work out with a physio just what's wrong over the phone. Hopefully the pain you felt running stays away for walking. 🤗
Very glad to hear that Grannyhugs, you won't know yourself running without those hills.
Happy running.
You will be back again mate although it may take time. All you can do at home, you are doing; so this will hopefully be helping. You are right though when you say to be patient because you will be back and I believe in time stronger than ever.
I know it’s hard when you want to be back out there, you are doing the correct things just take your time for recovery and you will be back before you know it. Take care Roxy
Oh no, poor you, that must have been really demoralising. However, you're doing the right thing, got to think of the long game. Keep up all the strengthening work if your knee lets you and you will be back fitter and stronger 💪
Oh no!! I sympathise having had various spells on the IC myself. Do you do any online Pilates or yoga? Maybe concentrate on keeping the rest of you in shape while you are u able to run. Good luck for your recovery 🤞
Thank you Limberlou, I am doing some other stuff to keep fit ... bit great idea too to have a look at Pilates and/or yoga.
Fortunately the leisure club I go to under normal conditions has put lots of work outs and classes online. I’ll certainly have a look at some beginner Pilates or yoga routines.
I’ve been doing Pilates for over 10 years now and it has really helped with my SI joint problems which I struggled with since the birth of my daughter 33 years ago. Now ( touch wood) I don’t have back issues and I had spent years and £s on chiropractors, massages, seen specialists at the hospital and physios and done every exercise they gave me. I had traction, hydrotherapy, and like a sort of microwave thingy that they ran over my back for 10 mins or so, and then the TENS machine too. None of it worked. But Pilates has.
My instructor teaches the Franklin method and she is brilliant - always keeping up to date with new classes and workshops. She has done an online website for about 3-4 years now and there are so many classes recorded on there. She also does us a free class on each Tuesday at 7.30 on ZOOM. Which she then uploads onto the site for us to revisit if we want to.
She is keen to tailor sessions to suit each of us if we have a certain area we have problems with and has been amazing helping me with my hip issues.
