Many of you will know I have had ‘niggly knees’ since running further distances. Walking an avearage of 7 miles a day for three weeks whilst in Australia before Christmas really did not help.
So I have been seeing a private physio and completing exercises daily. I can tell the exercises are helping.
Last week she ‘manipulated’ my left (worse) knee ......(ooooo that was painful), followed by therapeutic ultra sound. i was told once it had settled again I could run slow, flat, short distances.......avoiding road running.
So today was my day. My first run of the year. Slow and steady in the glorious ( but cold) January sunshine. The photo shows some of my lovely route. Just 30 minutes, and I felt good, I knew I could have done more. BUT I am seeing the physio again next week and would really like to avoid more painful manipulation 😱😱😱.
So I’m back, but this month I will be mainly running short distances only. I am so glad I bought my lovely Brooks trail shoes late last year, perfect this morning!

It runs out of alignment so weak muscles on inner side. The further I run the less my knee likes it. It has some thickening which has to be broken down so that it can all build again properly..... or something like that! The exercises are helping strengthen the weakness. . Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
Gorgeous route! Glad your run was good and that you can get some regular running in again. Mind you 7 miles a day walking?!! I have niggly knees too and feel the pavements don't help. It's not easy to run anywhere else though. Good luck getting back into it
Well, that all sounds very positive. Love your lovely route there. That is sure to buck you up on a grey, wintry day. I wore my Brooks Cascadias to shreds! Loved em
Glad the physio is paying off! It helps to know that you're taking positive steps to get fit and well. Hopefully you'll soon be fully back to your normal programme
Oh forgot to say. We have imbalances in our skeletons and feel weaker on one side. I have found, running longer distances, causes hip problems on one side which apparently can be to do with weakness on the other side resulting in one side doing all the work!
I've been doing yoga to a dvd at home. Yesterday I was so aware of this when doing one of the moves. I hope it's going to strengthen everything up if I keep doing it. I love it! Maybe it's something you could have a go at.
I do yoga and Pilates myself, have done for 18 months. I have much better equity of strength and balance since doing so regularly. The knee is a different matter, it needs sorting once and for all. I will be maintaiming the physio exercises ongoing but these will become progressive as they become easier. 😀👍🏼
