‘Morning my running friends 😊

The morning after the Oxford Half earlier in the month, I developed a pain on the top of my right foot. It was sore to walk on and still is.

I went to my local minor injuries clinic where they did an X-ray but that proved inconclusive so ruled out a stress fracture.

I’ve since been to the doctor who diagnosed Extensor Tendonitis. He just said rest it and if it doesn’t clear up in a few months, to go back to see him. Needless to say, that’s not what I wanted to hear 😱

Has anyone here had this? Any advice will be gratefully received 😊

On no Ted, sounds awful, so sorry to hear this. I’ve not heard of it I’m afraid, all I can offer is sympathy and the thought that it won’t be forever. You’ll be back before too long, and then you’ll be going into longer days and more sunlight. Stay in touch eh? We’re all here for you!

Oh and I liked your post not because I like the fact that you’re on the IC :)

Thanks Neil. It’s the tendons that run down to your toes. Basically overuse....two HM’s in a month didn’t help 🙄

in reply toTedG

Well you have my utmost respect for running two HMs... all the best for your recovery.

Sorry about that Ted. Is it worth seeing a sports physio ?

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

Possibly, going to see how it goes over the next week or so 🙄

No advice , but hugs. I’m so sorry to hear about this. You are my hero, especially after the Oxford half, and also one of the nicest, kindest people it’s been my pleasure to meet. I shan’t forget you coming along to support me on my first park run - it gave me the push I needed to enter races. So I’m keeping fingers and toes crossed that the pesky foot injury clears up soon xx

Oh Ted, I am sorry to hear this. I don't have any experience of it, but it sounds like resting it up is the only way. Pfffft. You must be so peeved. I am sure it won't be months, sounds a bit worse case scenario to me, but it is important to rest damaged tendons. Is there anything else you can do to keep yourself from going stir crazy? Do you swim? Maybe give Pilates a go? Anything that will keep you strong until you can run again my friend. Sending you a big consolation hug. xxx

Oh Ted, so sorry to hear this. I don’t have any experience of it either (un)fortunately, I just hope you can keep with it and find something to keep your fitness levels going. Sports physio and swimming suggested above sound great suggestions to stop you climbing the walls. Hope you heal quickly and can get back to it sooner than you think x

Oh that sucks Ted.😯Sorry to hear of your injury... no advice either, but Sadie has made some good suggestions to keep your fitness levels up. Big hug and hope it mends quickly.

You had a great month though eh? Those medals are hard earned.😊xxx

Just sending you positive vibes Ted, and keeping everything crossed that it’ll sort itself out sooner rather than later. 🤞

So sorry to hear of your woes Ted, I had this a few years ago, although not from running, I think a pair of high heels were to blame, are there any extra-curricula activities you would like to share? 😉

I could not bear any weight on the foot (like you, thought I had fractured it but X-ray revealed no breaks) and was on crutches for 2 weeks. Only advice I can offer is to follow the Drs advice, stay off it as much as possible and keep it elevated.

Sadie’s suggestion of swimming sounds like a good one to ease yourself back into exercise once the worst of the pain subsides, I couldn’t bear to have anything touch the top of my foot to begin with so pushing it through water would have been unbearable for the first week or so.

I do feel for you, having a vegetative state forced on you is soul destroying but it won’t be forever, and the better you heed the Drs advice now the sooner you will be up and about again.

Take care and make the most of having time to read all those running magazines and blogs that I never seem to have time to 😁

Thanks Teri, I can honestly say that high heels weren’t to blame 🤪

I can only rest it if I’m at home. It’s still pretty painful to walk on even though it’s the best part of 3 weeks since the injury occurred 😣

I’m not a good swimmer so don’t really enjoy it tbh.... I’m going to give Aqua Running a try along with some easy cardio at the gym 🤞

I am with you on the swimming, never been a big fan of putting my face in the pool, always feel like I am going to drown 😳 I’ve never tried aqua running but looking at photos it appears your feet never touch the bottom so that does look like very promising rehab.... let us know how you get on with it.

Oh no, Ted, I'm so sorry to hear this news. That really sucks - especially after all the hard work you put in to achieve the two HMs recently. I feel for you, but please do take the doctor's advice and rest it up completely for a while - hopefully a sports physio might be able to help and suggest some ways to ease yourself back running again. In my experience (from being knocked off my bike a few years ago), damaged tendons hurt like hell and take time to heal properly, so don't be tempted to rush things. I found yoga helped - so maybe take up others' suggestions of pilates and/or swimming? I'm keeping my fingers crossed and sending hugs - keep us posted x

Sorry to read your news. ☹️Look after yourself TedG. Come back soon pet!💐

Thanks Peggy, It cleared up last week as fast as it came on.

If it was Tendonitis then it was a mild dose but hey, who cares, I’m back again 🤗
