Delightful grandson sneezed and slobbered over us all last week so been nursing a cold - hubby pretty ill with it. No cycling, no running until a very short freezing 3.3k test run this morning, will try longer tomorrow. 3 seasons in the day today, no snow quite yet 🤣
O Grannyhugs, please don't mention the S word, snow, not yet surely, in fact early next week we have to have a 'mini heatwave' not long, but a few dry days of sunshine, I just hope your husband and grandson recover quickly from their cold. SNOW 🤣
I’ll certainly be wearing gloves on my run next time it’s as cold and windy as this morning, afternoon was delightful. Far far too early for the white stuff.
I agree, whilst not in an extra lockdown, running has given me a focus and structure to my week, we have seen our daughters who have been in various lockdowns along the way, we have not seen our son since his birthday on January 2nd, for various reasons, our planned weekend for all the family last week went awry as he and one of our daughters were poorly! they live quite close and didn’t want to risk giving it to us, its where we’re at, at the moment. Hope your partial lockdowns over quickly and you can visit your Mum & Dad very soon.
Happy runnings and hope it sorts itself out soon for your visits.
Running definitely helps - it stops your world from feeling like it is shrinking in.
My husband is travelling up to Scotland to visit his parents for their diamond wedding anniversary next week. His parents aren't in partial lockdown, but his sister and brother-in-law, who live a few miles away, are. The celebrations are already a little curtailed - just hoping the weather stays nice so they can celebrate in the garden.
I'm very pleased to say my husband will be taking his running gear and run the seafront with a beautiful view of Arran to cheer him along.
Just a bit further along the coast then. Some beautiful islands to look out to on that shore.
Phew and thank goodness for our running Buddy, hopefully we can get the country back on track asap 🤞👍
Sorry to hear that Buddy, it’s such a loss being separated from loved ones, I do hope it will be short lived for you this time. Running is indeed a great blessing and glad to hear it’s softening the blow for you at the moment. 🤗
Sorry to hear that, Buddy. It's difficult not to feel depressed at the moment. I so agree about the running. I sometimes think I started running just to get me through this.
My son's wedding in Scotland is supposed to happen on 3rd October after being postponed from April - twenty guests only. My poor future daughter in law isn't even able to look forward to it because she's not convinced it's going to happen. 😔
I think for a lot of us on here would agree with that title, it’s the best thing to come out of 2020, I haven’t run for a few days, been having a break, but I’m out in the morning as I’m missing the high it gives me and I’m feeling a bit flat 🏃♂️
Think I may be in the same part of Scotland as you, Buddy. Sending a fist bump of solidarity ✊🏻and yes, the running is an absolute life saver atm. We’ll get through this.
Know how you feel. We’re having ‘no visiting’ restrictions from Tuesday (Birmingham) Our problem is we provide childcare and do the school run for our grandchildren which won’t be able to happen 😏 yet I can go into school and mix with kids all day. Very frustrating! Just hoping they don’t add travel restrictions as I travel to a ‘green’ place to run. But yes, running gives us a bit of normality. Hope your restrictions don’t last too long.
Sorry to hear about your lockdown. It’s tough. We’re still on very strict restrictions here in Melbourne so you certainly have my sympathy. Running is such a gift and something I’m super thankful for too 🏃♀️
I echo the sentiments above. I’m not in lockdown yet, but I’m sure it’ll be coming our way. I’m due to be a grandma for the second time (not sure that phrasing is correct🤔) in February, just hoping we’ll be ok to go see him/her.
It’s not seeing family that is difficult. On a break from running as knee playing up but my other hobby is quilting so I still have a sanity outlet, though it’s not quite the same as being out in the fresh air.
Things are getting a bit precarious again and as you say, thank goodness for running.
I absolutely get this Buddy. It is a constant for us that allows us time to get our feelings out and think with more clarity whether we are feeling high or low. I hope things pick up for you there. I'm doing my long run in a minute and I'll be thinking of you and the others here who spur me on 😊
I'm in Scotland as well, luckily no extra lock downs in Fife. However wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence about running helping a bit (lot) with day to day life 🙂
Hey Buddy 34, completely understand. We’re all better off for running in this situation. It certainly clears our minds. We haven’t yet had your form of lockdown but have certain restrictions here in East Ayrshire. Stay strong and enjoy your running in the good old Scottish weather. I’m just back in after a wee 5k. Even managed to miss the rain👍👍albeit very surprising.
So many complications to life. We look after grandchildren and to be fair I’m not sure how that fits in with guidelines but otherwise my daughter couldn’t work. That makes us a ‘bubble’ of 7. Also my mum died in February so all her estate has still to be sorted. Every time my brother sister and I try to get together to sort the house the rules change and we have to cancel again! I’m not complaining though as the figures are beginning to be really worrying. Hope your area improves soon
Sorry to hear you’re back on partial lockdown. These decisions are taken so suddenly, it can really mess with your head. Enjoy keeping on running until it improves again. No leaving the house for me for the next 2 weeks having had the temerity to go to France - I will definitely be out for a (not) Parkrun 2 weeks today!
Absolutely - lower than most places in the UK😡 Oh well, c’est la vie! It’s only 2 weeks and it’s currently warm and sunny in the uk so we can break out a bottle of Bergerac rose and a barbecue and pretend we’re still there 🇫🇷
Its a bit of a bummer these new restrictions, isn't it? Hopefully they won't last too long. I think young people are getting fed up with the whole thing as they are bearing the brunt of the job losses etc and now being blamed for the increased numbers. Thank goodness we can still run.
Young people shouldn't be blamed anyway. They were told to go back to school. Now the secondary school near me has well over a 1000 pupils and can't possibly social distance. Can't win🤷♀️
