A “Thank goodness for running” run 🏃‍♀️ 😊

COVID finally struck our household this week, with my son unfortunately testing positive, despite having had his first vaccination. Mr D-d and I are all clear. Thankfully our son hasn’t been too poorly with it, and his very mild symptoms have been limited to a slight headache and a change in his sense of smell and taste. Such a shame, as he has been working as a record keeper with me at our vaccination hub and we have been so thorough and so careful. How he isn’t bouncing off his bedroom walls by now astounds me. Self-isolation would send me potty!!

Needless to say, my opportunities for running this week have been zero, as I have been providing on demand room service (his appetite has not been affected 🙄). Today though, Mr D-d was able to work from home, so after my morning shift at the vaccination hub, I headed out for a run with my dog Isla for company. We walked for 5 minutes either side of our run, which was a consecutive 3k - go Isla 🐾 😄!! Our last outing together was our first attempt at Jeffing, and was very successful. Today however I just wanted to press the button and just run, uninterrupted if possible, so I was chuffed to bits Isla kept going for a full 3k. She did look at me and slow down after 1k as if to say , “What really?! No walking? You want me to keep running? Are you mad?” After some persuasion she picked up her paws 🐾 a bit and kept on going. Her run is a very dainty trot alongside my jog, until she sees a squirrel that is, then she would be off like a shot if it wasn’t for the lead! 🐿

As you can imagine, Isla is now a very pooped pooch, stretched out on the rug fast asleep. I am quite sure she’ll wake for her dinner though……

As for me…. I am refreshed by my run. I hadn’t realised quite how much I had needed it. It wasn’t far, but it was just the right run for today.

Happy running all 😊🏃‍♀️🐾

Yes the dreaded Covid bug has hit my family too! Daughter-in-law and youngest son but symptoms have been mild and both fully recovered after 5 days. Finally complete week 1 AGAIN and starting on week 2. You should try Nordic walking. I think you would enjoy it and you can get free taster sessions in your area. Easier with dog… Your run sounds lovely. Well done

Thanks Timotea. I’m glad your family are recovered. This strain seems pretty virulent. Nordic walking sounds interesting, but I think Isla would wrap herself and her lead around the poles!! I have to constantly weave her lead round my waist as I run, passing it from one side to another. We’ve got it off to a fine art - it even looks like we’re dancing!! Good luck with week 2. You have great determination. Please post so we can cheer you on. Xx 🤗

Sounds like your run gave you just what you needed today. I love your description of Isla looking at you at 1k 🤣I hope the rest of you stay Covid free and that your son gets better soon

in reply to dijep

Thanks dijep. I think Isla was having her own version of the toxic 10 at 1k!! 😆🙄🐾😊

I hope you son is better soon. What bad luck.I expect Isla will benefit from the exercise! A double bonus.

in reply to Roxdog

Thanks Roxdog. Dear son is starting to get a bit stir-crazy this evening. I managed to get him outside in a sunny corner of the garden at lunchtime, just so he gets some fresh air & sunshine. I sat at a distance in another corner 😃 so I guess we had a COVID picnic 🧺!

Sounds like a much needed run Hidden . I bet your son is counting down the days to freedom - and hope he is fully recovered soon.

in reply to Sandraj39

Thank you Sandra. He’s just starting to get a little fed up of his four walls. Three more days to go. I need to find a way to distract him!

…I also wanted to say well done to you both for your work at the vaccination hub. A lot of amazing people have helped make us all feel a little stronger in the face of this horrible virus. Thank you.🙏🙂

in reply to Sandraj39

I think it has given us both back just as much - it's felt a very special thing to be part of. ☺️

Sorry to hear that Covid has entered your home Delly-dot but it sounds like he is doing the right thing to contain it. I have noticed numbers are going up on our area again so fingers crossed.

Sounds like a most enjoyable run with Isla.

in reply to Dexy5

Yes, numbers are definitely on the rise down here in the south. Fingers crossed cases are mostly mild. 😊

Despite the news about your son, your post made me smile, Delly-dot. The not knowing you needed a run feeling is very familiar to me right now.

And what a glorious thing to run with your dog! That sounds dreamy.

Hope son is on the mend soonest.

in reply to acountrycabbage

Thank you. Isla is very characterful. She's definitely a dog who lets you know exactly what she's thinking 😆😉.

Aww, it’s the best when you really get a feel for your dog’s personality 💕🐾

Gosh... it thought I had replied to this yesterday!I am glad that your son is not feeling to ill... appetite not affected is always a great sign! I am also glad neither you or Mr D-d are affected either.

How super this running is, for keeping us mentally and physically strong... it is truly , a life line at times for keeping us grounded.

Your run sounds super and your dog.. fabulous running on her part!

Sometimes a run like yours is just the thing, far enough, but not too far... and working perfectly, to clear the head :) x

in reply to Oldfloss

Thank you Oldfloss. Definitely a head clearing run, and running with Isla meant it was quite entertaining too!

O no I do hope your son feels better soon and can be released from his isolation. Well done on your very therapeutic run. It’s good to have company on your run 🐾🐾Hopefully you and Mr DD won’t have caught the dreaded virus 🦠. Stay safe

in reply to Scruff55

Thank you Scruff. 😊 I shallot another therapeutic run in over the weekend. Whether Isla will choose to join me.....? We'll see!

Amazing isn’t it how running is such a saviour and I never would have known without the C25K hope your son recovers soon boys do eat an awful lot I’m sure my sons just opened the cupboards and inhaled all the food 🤣

in reply to Wavy-chick28

Oh sorry to hear about your son !Hope he has a speedy recovery and you manage to avoid infection .

Sometimes just a short run is all that's needed .

Even if Isla wanted to Jeff 😁

in reply to Instructor57

I might have to allow Isla a Jeffing run on our next outing, otherwise I can picture that little speech bubble above her head containing words of protest again!! The doggy version of this ... 🤬 I think.

Sorry to hear that….we are in the same boat in our household. Luckily for my teenager release comes the day before her birthday. Not sure I’m ready to try running with my hound….Labrador who loves all other dogs….could be a recipe for disaster!

in reply to Sparkey5000

Oh! Happy Release Day when it comes! I hope your daughter hasn’t been too poorly? As for the running with hound thing, do it! Sometimes it’s crazy, sometimes it goes horribly wrong (running with poo bags 🤢), sometimes it’s fun, but it’s always interesting!
