Still doing consolidation runs but am managing to run for 35 mins generally (5k) without stopping although sometimes I slow to a fast walk for a few seconds if I’m finding it really hard. Not coping well in the heat but I’m pleased that I’ve achieved this much and my motto is : “slow and steady wins the race.” I think to myself - I’ve been out and done 35 mins good exercise instead of sitting on the couch and that makes me feel good - regardless of time / speed / distance or other people’s expectations! I’ll slowly build up the time and most importantly- enjoy it and the benefits that come with it. I cycle as well, so for someone aged 55 I’m feeling quite pleased with myself (sorry)! 😏😬😬

So you should be! You're doing so well. I'd slow right down and gradually, incrementally build up longer slower runs. Going slower definitely is the future because this helps your stamina as well as giving you more in the tank at the end.

I am 55 too- clearly the best age to take up running😂

Definitely- you’ve got to 10k I see... so there’s hope for me! Yay 😀!!

You are doing brilliantly. Your time is great for 5k!

When you are ready to try longer distances just slow your pace down and that should be enough to keep you going for the duration of the run.

Have a look at both the distance and timed versions of The Magic Plan as a way to move forward.

Don't apologise! You should be proud. Many of us are no spring chickens, but running makes you feel so strong doesn't it!
