So...what do do for my Thursday run? I already did a 5K on Tuesday, which was supposed to be a slow run and turned out not quite as Iβd planned. Iβm going on a long, slow run on Saturday, so I didnβt want to push myself too hard this morning.
I remembered that some weeks ago I went on a 2K run, just to work on pace and to try and beat my 1K PB. Maybe it was time to give that another go! Decision made, I do my dynamic exercises and off I go. Not too worried about wearing a jacket, I knew I wouldnβt be out for long π. I love the freedom of this decision making about my runs!
The last time I did this it was because I was experiencing a significant improvement in my pace, largely due to my long, slow runs. So I wanted to measure it over a shorter distance. Kilometre times for that 2K run were 6:37 and 6:43 respectively. Iβve always been one of the slower runners on here, but I like to think I can have the occasional burst of speed if I want! π
Well, Iβve definitely speeded up since that run. New PB for 1K of 6:10. Very pleased with that! Quite respectable. You may say that I canβt maintain it and you would be right! I canβt maintain it. YET π
Oh, and Garmin LOVES that short run! My VO2 Max shot up. Iβm in the top 10% for my age and gender and my fitness age is 35, thatβs over 30 years younger than my actual age. (Note to self: check whether I lied about my age when setting up Garmin π.)
Splits:
6:22, 6:10
Pic taken last year of the washes in full flood at sunrise, showing the flooded road.

Thank you! I was distracted by the Vitality 10,000, but now working towards that HM again. I need to do a few more 10 mile runs before I attempt it. π
I think it's so good for us when we can see some progression. These short zippy ones are the perfect partner for the long slow ones. A bit like Morecambe and Wise! Eric is the fast run and Ernie the long slow one π
I know it π, but I still felt a bit of a fraud walking back to my house after 12 odd minutes! I imagine the Time Spent Running monitor looking at his watch in despair and shaking his head sadly π
I did enjoy that short run, though. Nothing like a run to really get your heart rate going, but one that is over quite soon; really blows the cobwebs away and doesnβt leave you exhausted.
I'd suggest running fast like that and recording it on your device then slow recover jog home under a new run. I did a quite fast 5k the other week and stopped my Garmin then started it again for a very slow (12 min mile pace) jog back home. What do you think? Two runs this way and it helps you recover too.
What a great run and a great time! I've been feeling lately like my short runs have been getting slower rather than faster but I am trusting the coaches and sticking with the plan! Will go for the 10k this weekend and then hopefully follow in your tracks for some speedy shorts! Congrats again on the PBs!
Have been looking at the Vo2 max settings on my Garmin and your rate of 41 is in the Superior range....? Mine is at 28 and says my age fitness is 71 utterly confused
Gorgeous photo! Know what you mean about the short runs. I'm due to do a 4km tonight, and with all the effort of getting my nice warm clothes off to put on my running gear, I always feel once out I'm cheating if it's a tiny run, but maybe I could use the time to speed up a bit rather than my normal slow pace which had been getting more like a snail pace lately! ππββοΈ
I know exactly what you mean, but I realised that I felt good about that short run. GTFC suggested that I incorporated a slow jog as well as a different run and Iβm going to try that next time (although I was done after that speedy second km!) π
Thanks, Roxdog! Truth is, it helps to focus my mind away from other things! I have too much time. Hopefully when I get my bike it will help even more π
Sounds like an uplifting run today Jools π I'm struggling with the 4k run myself and have decided to do 2k jog followed by interval training which seems to take me to 2k atm - can't contemplate doing it the other way round π sounds like great fun doing a speedy k or two - well done you - great stats!!! π
Wow that is fantastic well done, on your new PB that is a lot faster, such amazing times. All your hard work is certainly paying off you must be so delighted with that, so great to be able to see your progress.
Lol! I love the update on your fitness age, take it and run!! I Must say I would not have put you in your βactualβ age group you look a lot younger!
