Return of the Grump consolidation run 1

I did my first 30 minutes consolidation run earlier. Gremlins in my head telling me I wasn’t on the programme anymore so I didn’t have to go, oh it looks windy out there, it’ll be horrible, leave it until tomorrow etc etc but I told them to bugger off and out I went. It seemed marginally more comfortable I think this was due to my mindset. No faster but I’m not after a prize for speed 😂

Well done. I let the gremlins get to me and failed to get out on the excuse of a busy day including a big dog walk later on. I know, no excuse at all. I have, though, printed off a copy of the Magic Running Time Plan. It includes a 15 minute run each week to start so that should sort out any excuses - it's hard to say that I can't run for 15 minutes on almost any day.

Ooh good call! I had a look at that too and it is along the lines of my plan to get up to 5k doing 20/30/40. Working full time fuels the gremlins too so a shorter run on a Monday and 30 mins on a Wednesday suits me. Last time round I was trying to do 5k 3 times a week and work got in the way. Much better to save the 5k for weekends x

The plan ( healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... ) does build up gradually. There's one shorter run, on 30 minute/5k run and one longer run that gradually takes you to 60 minutes/10k.

When I did it, I did the time (to 60 minute version) initially; which took me to 8k. I then went back to week 5 of the plan (where 8k was the long run) and did the distance version to get me to 10k.

Initially, I made some playlists that corresponded to the length of the runs to help distract me, but by the end it was just me listening to the sounds of nature.

Good luck and just keep punting those gremlins into touch.

That is exactly what I intended to do! Complete to 60 mins see what distance I’m at then go to the week of that distance. Great minds and all that.

Trouble is, I just kept building and now 8-12k is my typical distance and I do the occasional 10 mile - half marathon just for some variety.

Intervention anyone?

Wow that's amazing x do you mind telling me how long ago you graduated c25k and bridge210?

B2K was 1 July 2019- 1:19:36.

First 10 Mile was 28 October- 2:00:11.

Congratulations on completing c25k.

You're right , no excuses, no leaving it until tomorrow, or how the weather looks.

You got out and you ran . Well done you 😊😊

Well done on your consolidation. I too have avoided the temptation of not run exuses and it gets easier. I do 3 x 30 mins run and found its easily doable. I do mine in the evenings when i would otherwise be watching TV. If you dont go one evening its no biggie.. just make sure you do it the next time....even if its only 15 mins !

I would find so many more excuses in the evening

I'm the other way around, I can't do mornings and I only have one excuse, I'm still in bed. Parkrun aside, all my runs are evening runs, even in the pitch black of winter. It's a great way to get work out of my system, but we all have our best time of day; mine just isn't mornings.

That sounds good x reflecting on last graduation I realised I don't like race crowd running much so a virtual run is an excellent idea 👍

I’ve just signed up to a virtual 5k in August. Thanks for the tip 😍👍

You deserve a great prize for beating off those demons well done. Every run counts whether it is faster or slower, longer or shorter, than the last . Well done. Happy running 🤗

Congratulations! It’s hard to get out there without ‘rules’ or ‘guidance ‘. I found I often walked as Sarah wasn’t there to disapprove!! Keep getting out and having fun.

Woohoo, well done you. Those bloody pesky gremlins, you showed em. I am struggling too, just graduated 5k today, going to start the magic plan in a couple of weeks too. Anyone any ideas about interesting virtual 5ks I could do, I am signed up for the virtual running club uk sunrise city 5k in June, whats the August one you are signed up for?
