Up at 6.30am this morning for my first non- C25K run- really proud I got up and out but according to Strava I’m running slower now than I did on the programme!? Should I give up on watching my pace and distance and focus on the routine? Want to run faster and longer and know it takes time to build up but is it normal to slow down??
Thanks 🤗

There’s people on here who are far more expert than me but my experience was to do 3x30 min runs a 3 times a week for a few weeks without really worrying about time. After about six weeks I started the Magic Plan to build to running for an hour, which I should complete in two weeks. And suddenly the pace started to come. Just back from a 20 min run where I averaged splits of 7.33 mins per km, 30 seconds faster than I’ve ever done in any length of run (and I wouldn’t want to try to sustain that yet on my longer runs). I think I read that if you increase endurance by running for longer, your fast speed will pick up. But as I say I’m not an expert. I would prioritise building endurance (time running) over speed but that’s my personal
What’s the magic plan ? Is it the one that you do 10min run+1min walk X 4 in the first week ? I have just ran 5k post 2 wks hiatus and a course of antibiotics so need to get back into it !
It’s a programme to get you running 60 mins or 10k. It balances short, medium and long runs every week. Loads of info about it on here, have a search. (Sorry am typing with one hand on my phone so can’t hunt it down for you right now!!)
Well done on your progress so far. I’m still a newbie but my tuppence is don’t worry about pace. Just consolidate the 30 minute runs for a while and you’ll feel ready to add on extra distance and extra time. Pace will come with longer distances. Or interval training in the longer term. But keep doing what you’re doing.
