Hi lovely runners.

Thursday,I had a great run. Woo boo I thought, I’m improving.

2 hours later I gave blood, I’m not the fastest bleeder, but hadn’t recond on being a bit dehydrated, so it was a bit of a trial! But I did it. Rested, the rested Friday.

Saturday it’s Park Run, could i do a PB.

Well No. my legs felt like led, what is the matter with me.

My only conclusion for 3 mins. Outside my PB was giving blood.

I was so under par.

Lesson learnt. I won’t do that again. I will Marshall instead.

Happy Christmas to all on here.

Well done you on giving blood and yes it can make you a bit tired when you exert yourself. Have a rest and enjoy the rest of your weekend šŸŽ…šŸŽ…šŸŽ…

Yes you’ve lost a load of platelets and need to replace them to get back on form. Think about diet maybe and more carbs ( to produce glycogen for your muscles) & more iron rich food (liver, broccoli, unsulphered apricots etc) before and after giving blood to boost those iron levels. B6 &B12 supplements each morning to boost your energy too (berocca or similar).

Well done for being a lifesaver and giving blood too!

Only takes a couple of days to replace platelets and white blood cells. Takes up to 12 weeks to get red blood cells back to normal.

I researched the effects of giving blood on running. Apparently it can take a month to get back to normal! Unfortunately it’s made me decide not to give blood as I struggle enough!

I can't give blood now but when I could I would run. I just wouldn't do a hard run or try for a PB.

I have ORneg, the universal blood,so they always want mine. I will continue to give, but do marshalling instead.

last time I gave blood they asked about strenuous exercise, give yourself a day off after giving.
