Slip sliding

Any suggestions for running on frost? Last winter I don’t remember my feet slip sliding but I’ve got a new-ish pair of shoes. Should I sandpaper the soles?

Probably didn’t help that I was running down a steep path in the dark.

Eek be careful out there. I’ve been chatting to the uni campus groundsmen since I started running in the summer telling them what a great job they are doing, 😇and heaping loads of praise on them when I see masses of grit and salt spread over my route. 🥳 Think I may hand in a Christmas hamper! Guess it only works if you have an area like mine you can run circuits round 🤣

Don’t , would be my advice, frost = icy, be very careful, I don’t know of any type of running shoe that will grip on a frosty/icy surface.

I wouldn’t do anything to your shoes, if you sandpaper them you’ll make them smoother and have even less grip.....😱

You can get grippers that go on the bottom of shoes for ice and snow (if you live in those types of climes) - personally, I wouldn’t attempt it, and try to go off road, or a safer route that’s gritted.

Take care!

Hi. This is my first winter running so I’m afraid I can’t offer any advice.

I actually joined a gym yesterday, just for three months, because I don’t want to risk falling when out in the dark mornings and evenings. It really is slippery out there

Be careful because it’s what you can’t see that’s the problem.

I’m sure lots of lovely people on here will give you some great advice.

I have alot of experience of this... I try and stick to fields, or grassy verges. If the pavement is super smooth thats not good.... if you have no grass where you are you could go out super early and run on the road ( no music etc and wear reflectors) as its likely they will have been gritted and are often a rougher surface. Most importantly, stay safe.

I went for relatively quiet gritted roads during later evening - I am fortunate to have that nearby.

I faced towards possible oncoming traffic & listened out carefully for occasional cars - & leapt onto the grass verge or pavement if they appeared. It only worked well because the road was so quiet. 😄

Thanks everyone- the frost caught me by surprise as I hadn’t realised it was that cold.

I’m going to keep an eye on temps and nip out when I spy some faint sunshine.
